Did you know portable fire extinguishers require more than just an annual inspection?
Certain rechargeable fire extinguishers require a Six-Year Internal Maintenance service. During this process, the extinguisher is taken out of service, emptied, internally examined, serviced as needed, reassembled, recharged, and properly documented.
Regular maintenance helps ensure your extinguishers are:
Ready to operate when needed
Properly maintained and compliant
Free from internal damage or deterioration
Up to date on required service intervals

Did you know 💡

Under the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, emergency lights and exit signs require a 30-second functional test every month and a 90-minute full-capacity battery test once a year. All testing, visual checks, and repairs must be documented and kept on-site for inspection.

We recently had the opportunity to provide hands-on fire extinguisher training for a local school district and their bus transportation staff.

Knowing how to properly respond during the first moments of a fire can make a major difference. Training covered fire extinguisher safety, proper use, and the confidence to act quickly and safely in an emergency.

A big thank you to the school district and bus staff for making fire safety a priority for their employees and students!

Site-Walk Tip: Measure actual walking/travel distance, not simply a straight-line measurement. Consider walls, equipment, doors, aisles, and other obstacles when evaluating coverage.

Class A — Ordinary Combustibles
Paper, wood, cloth, plastics, and similar materials
Maximum Travel Distance: 75 ft.
Class B — Flammable Liquids
Gasoline, solvents, oils, paints, and similar hazards
Maximum Travel Distance: 30–50 ft.
Distance depends on the hazard and extinguisher rating.
Class K — Cooking Oils & Fats
Commercial kitchens and cooking appliances
Maximum Travel Distance: 30 ft.
