We graduated an in person leadership program today at Driver’s Village. This is absolutely the best part about my job. The speeches were so inspiring and heartfelt. It felt great to hug people and shake hands 😊 Tim Ahern Lindsey Zajac

We had an incredible opportunity to meet James Kouzes today. He is a prolific author and educator who has spent the last 4 decades studying leadership. He left us with this poem that his father kept under the glass on his desk in the 1950s. I love the poem and it reiterates the impact and influence we all have on each other. ❤️

Today marked session 2 of our Leadership is a Verb program with a new client. Being in front of a group of supervisors and managers (with proper safety precautions) is nothing short of amazing. I love hearing the discussions, input and questions that are generated from an in person training. The leadership lessons apply more today than ever. The pictures are what the participants hope to gain after the program.

This morning while I was getting ready for the day, I received a text message that made my week.

It was from a former coaching client who said, "Good morning Lindsey! I was just thinking about you and thought I would say hello. I can't believe that I have been at my new employer for a year now. It's amazing the difference it makes to be somewhere where you are valued! I'm still not sure I would have made it through without your mentorship. Hope all is well."

I am not a recruiter or a career counselor but when I start working with my clients I help them with their top professional goals. While working with this client it was obvious from the beginning that she was in a toxic work environment and horribly unhappy at work so together we worked on finding her next position.

Every client is unique and what is important is I meet them where they are and help them accomplish their most pressing goals. I'm so glad she believed in me.

Resolutions can be a great jumping off point, BUT if you really want to make some headway in areas that matter to you this year–whether at the individual, team, or organizational level–goal planning is the way to go.

Goals are highly specific written statements of what is to be accomplished, and should never be confused with New Year’s resolutions. After they are established and clearly defined, they eventually will need to include a time frame for accomplishment and an accurate and consistent means of measurement and metrics.

We recommend the SMART goal framework. And while most people have heard of SMART goals, our experience shows that even if you know what it is, it’s extremely likely that you’re still not defining them properly when it comes time to lay them out.

Check out our new blog post at https://lnkd.in/dGiibnn to learn exactly what that looks like.

(and there are some extra expert resources available if you're looking to set some great goals for the year)

January is a big month for goal setting. I like to think of goals as promises to yourself. It’s ok and often encouraged to start small or break a big goal down into small steps. Stay tuned for a blog post and video on goal setting next week.

I consider myself a fairly optimistic person and I was as eager as the next person to say good bye and good riddance to 2020!

With that said, I am realistic enough to know that simply turning over the calendar to a new month does not magically change the current situation. While overall 2021 may hold better days ahead, we are very much in the midst of adverse situations that require us to continue to flex our resilience muscles every day.

Some things that help me are:

1. Having a vision & goals for the next 6 months

2. Focusing on what I can control vs. obsessing over what I can't

3. Practicing self-care and stress management

4. Finding ways to improvise and get creative

5. Surrounding myself with people who challenge me and make me better

We’ve all faced adversity at some point in our career. Maybe you’ve lost a job, or your project’s budget was cut. Or perhaps you worked for a horrible boss. Factor in an unprecedented pandemic and an uncertain economy and chances are, you’re no stranger to adversity. While we can’t avoid h...

If there is anything that 2020 taught me, it was the incredibly important lesson not to wait. Whether it was waiting until you are truly ready to do something (hello zoom trainings, home schooling a five year old, and recording awkward videos of myself), waiting until all the conditions are ideal (hello global pandemic and economic downturn), waiting until you have all the necessary information to make a decision (so many of us were forced to pivot, adapt and change on a daily basis), waiting until the perfect time to see loved ones (I wish we had seen my in-laws more regularly because in 2020 we couldn't), waiting to take the trip you always dreamed of (I'm so glad we took the kids to Disney in January 2020 becuase it may never be the same), or waiting to finally enjoy your life (choosing joy and finding the good is a daily decision).

Whatever it may be in your personal or professional life, my sincere hope for you is that you don't wait. Life is short and so very valuable. Nothing is guaranteed and the world as we know it can change in an instant. So go out there and start doing whatever it is that you want or need to do. Stop making excuses, stop procrastinating, stop waiting... I'll be right there with you. Lindsey Zajac
