The North Dakota Game and Fish Department announced today that the state's 2026 paddlefish snagging season will close Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. Central time to any additional harvest to provide long-term protection of the paddlefish population.

An additional snag-and-release extended season will begin May 9 and run through May 15.

Available while we have them: “partials” from 2025. We don’t mix fish together, so after we fill the 2 lb and half lb containers, what remains goes into a “partial.” These contain between .3 and .45 lb of caviar and can be purchased in person for $35 (cash or card) at the North Star Caviar cleaning station if you’d like to give it a try.
