Today I finally got everything in line for a photo submittal to Great Lakes Publishing. They found my photograph on Discover Ohio's page and reached out to me a couple months back to see if I would be interested in selling them the photograph for a feature on Amish Country and possibly for the cover of Travel Ohio Magazine. After reviewing a couple photographs the publishing company and I decided on the photograph below for the submittal. I've had my work featured/displayed on some different pages & websites but this will be my first professional publishing if all works out.
Some of you know the history behind this photograph, but for those who don't- The photograph was taken last fall in Sugar Creek, Ohio. If you've never been down to Sugar Creek, it is the Amish Country located just south of the Akron/Canton area near Dover, Ohio. In my opinion, it is some of the most beautiful country side to ride or drive through in all of Ohio.
I will never forget the day I forced myself to go out and shoot after a long day of shooting with a photography company I had been working for at the time... I was tired & I just wanted to go relax in my hotel but something told me that it was the perfect day to go capture the covered bridge I had been wanting to photograph ever since I had arrived down there a couple days earlier... So I set out to photograph some covered bridges but ended up spending all my time sitting by this particular bridge you see in the photograph. With a little timing on my side, I ended up with a breathtaking sunset, horse & buggy and my covered bridge to top it all off. This piece has remained my favorite landscape to date. It is also a reminder to me that as an artist it sometimes becomes difficult to create because you're feeling uninspired or tired, but time and time again I've proven to myself that we create our own inspiration. My best work has come from those times that I've forced myself to just get out there and create. Our perception is our own reality...
Inspiration can be created.
