Some of the Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department kiddos riding on the departments WC56 in the Gillespie County Fair Parade. With the help of their smiles and expert flag waving, the department was awarded third place in the Community Entries.

8/28 3:20P: This fire is 171 acres and 95% contained. The fire rekindled about an acre and additional crews have been called to continue working to put out flames and hot spots.

No changes to community impacts.

8/28 11:10A: Fire still at 165 acres and 90% containment. No change to operations or impacts.

8/28 8:10A: Containment operations and mop up of embers continued overnight. Fire has been updated to about 165 acres and 90% contained. Crews will finalize containment this morning and work to improve dozer lines around the fire in case of any restarts with today's heat.

8/27 10:15P: Fire remains at 155 acres and 80% containment. No change to impacts.

8/27 8:50P: Updated fire size is about 155 acres at 60% containment. Crews continue to mop up the fire's edge. Some heavy fuels still have a lot of heat from the fire.

1 outbuilding saved and 1 large hunting blind lost. No lost structures. No displaced residents.

8/27 8:30P: Crews continue to work hotspots and areas with fire still present. Forward motion of the fire has been slowed significantly. Acreage estimates will be updated with new measurements.

At this time, 1 outbuilding was threatened, no structures have been reported lost, and no residents displaced.

8/27 7:10P: The DuderStadt fire is about 50 acres and 0% contained as of now. 1 outbuilding is threatened. Fire crews continue to work the fire. Texas Forest Service is on scene to assist. Residents in the area are encouraged to stay aware and give responders space to work the fire.

8/27 6:30P: Crews continue to work the brushfire. Multiple City and County fire crews are out on this fire to assist. The fire is moving north in the direction of Fallen Oaks Drive. Continue to monitor fire conditions if in the area and heed first responder direction.

8/27 5:50P: Fire crews are responding to reports of a brushfire near the 1740 block Duderstadt Rd south of Harper in Western Gillespie County. Yield to responding units and steer clear of the area.

8/26 1P: Gillespie County has a moderate fire danger risk for the next three days according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Several of our recent brushfires have been the result of hot work or outdoor activities sparking a fire. Below are some tips to help reduce your risk of starting a brushfire while doing work on your property:

🔥Mow early in the morning and watch for rocks
🔥Consider use of spark arrestors
🔥Have a phone handy in case of 911
🔥Keep a shovel, hose, and fire extinguisher near
🔥Use a welding spotter and be mindful of conditions
🔥Do not park or idle on dry grass

Our thoughts and prayers are with every firefighter, first responder, emergency crew member, and support personnel working tirelessly on the Ross Fire, Rio Escandido Fire as well as the other fires burning across our State.

🔥 Ross Fire- Palo Pinto/Jack Co.
• Approximately 50,000 acres
• 5% contained

🔥 Rio Escandido Fire- Coryell/Hamilton Co.
• Approximately 2,500 acres
• 30% contained

These men and women are facing long hours, extreme heat, difficult terrain, smoke, and rapidly changing fire conditions as they work to protect lives, homes, property, and communities.

Please join us in praying for their safety, strength, endurance, and protection. Pray for favorable weather, increased containment, the communities in the path of these fires, and for every responder to return home safely.

Report from Texas Storm Chaser 🔥 MULTIPLE WILDFIRES BURNING ACROSS TEXAS — MONDAY AFTERNOON - 245PM

Fires are burning from the Red River down into the Hill Country this afternoon. Details below are per Watch Duty and local scanner reports — sizes and containment are early estimates and will change.

Wise/Parker County line — fire about 3 miles north of Agnes, with reports of possible structure involvement. Size unknown.
Gillespie County — fire near Tierra Linda, northwest of Kerrville. Size unknown.
Wichita County — Road Runner Fire near Lake Iowa Park, around 50 acres.
Denton County — fire near Krum. Size unknown.
Wise County — 51 Fire northeast of Decatur. Size unknown.
Palo Pinto County — Ross Fire west of Palo Pinto near Highway 180, at least 80 acres.
Near Evant — Rio Escandito Fire northeast of town, around 100 acres.

Seven separate starts in one afternoon isn't bad luck. Record-breaking heat has cured the grass out statewide and fire danger is Very High. Almost anything can start one right now.

8/21 1:30P: A burn ban is in effect for Gillespie County as of 9:15A this morning. Fuels continue to dry out quickly and the heat is expected to intensify over the next week. This burn ban is in effect for the next 90 days unless renewed or rescinded.

🔥No outdoor burning allowed
🔥Violation of order is punishable by fine up to $500

Be caution with all activities that may lead to sparks or could start a fire. Report all smoke plumes to dispatch and be sure to share the ban information with your neighbors. Thank you for helping to protect Gillespie County from uncontrolled fires! 🧡
