Of course that can come and go, but some ponds have consistent issues with turbidity. Electrofishing surveys are one of the most surefire ways to really know where your pond stands. The health status of the fish, age class structure, prey availability, and even what species you have. One of the common things we find, especially in more southern states, is fast and large recruitment of crappie. While most folks love catching crappie, they can compete heavily with other species like bluegill that make for better largemouth bass prey. Many landowners don't realize just how many crappie they can keep for the family fish fry out of their pond, without ever coming close to fishing them out of the lake. However once they come along to see an electrofishing survey, they see just how big those crappie populations can get, even with lots of harvest. The calm before the storm. A big wave of water coming this week for all of our clients, from South Dakota and Nebraska all the way down to Texas.
