As a local small business, we feel it’s important to clarify some
misinformation that was shared by Precinct 3 at Work regarding our recycled asphalt-shingle product and its suitability for county road work.
Our company has invested years into developing a high-quality recycled material that has been used successfully across Texas in driveways, ranch roads, easements, parking areas, and low-volume county roads. The product is engineered, tested, and field-proven for compaction, durability, and weather resistance. Any suggestion that it is “not a good product” is both false and not based on any meaningful understanding of how the material is actually produced or used.
What is most disappointing is that the statement was made without ever visiting our facility, reviewing our process, or allowing us the
opportunity to demonstrate how the product performs. As a small
business located inside this very precinct, we have repeatedly
expressed willingness to work with our county leadership, provide
samples, explain the engineering behind the product, and show how it saves tax dollars while supporting local economic growth. Those opportunities have been declined.
Misleading claims like this do a real disservice—not just to our
business, but to the community members who depend on cost-effective, sustainable solutions for road maintenance.
Recycling asphalt shingles keeps thousands of tons of material out of landfills, reduces costs compared to virgin aggregate, and supports jobs right here in Van Zandt County.
Our company takes tremendous pride in providing dependable,
environmentally responsible products backed by real data and real
results. We remain committed to serving this county with transparency, integrity, and open communication.
If anyone—including county officials—would like to tour our facility, review performance data, or see the material in the field, we welcome that conversation and will gladly provide any information needed.
Small businesses are the backbone of this county, and we will continue standing behind the quality of our work and the value we bring to our community.
Thank you,
Dakota Pickens, President
