Not every houseplant loves rooting in water. Some plants do better when started directly in soil, especially succulents, cacti, and plants with thicker leaves or stems.

Here are 10 houseplants that often root better in soil:

🌿 Snake Plant
🌿 ZZ Plant
🌿 Jade Plant
🌿 Echeveria
🌿 String of Pearls
🌿 Cactus
🌿 Aloe Vera
🌿 Rubber Plant
🌿 Fiddle Leaf Fig
🌿 Burro’s Tail

Some of these are beginner-friendly, while others take a little more patience. The key is using the right cutting, well-draining soil, and not overwatering.

Quick tip: for succulents and cacti, let the cutting callus first before placing it in soil. For Aloe Vera, pups are the best way to propagate.
