We are sorry to learn about Whisper’s passing. Big hugs to our friends at The Gentle Barn ❤️
We are devastated to share that Whisper has passed. If you've been following us, you know that she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery two weeks ago. And she's had many ups and downs since the surgery to remove three tumors that were wrapped around her small intestines after colicing. Whisper was making progress and we were hopeful that she would make a full recovery, but she began colicing again and after everything she'd been through, the pain was too much and we had to let her go.
Our founder Ellie Laks was with her every step of the way in the hospital, cleaning her stall, grooming her, massaging her, taking her for walks, singing to her, and so much more. But Ellie has also known and loved Whisper for a lifetime before all of this.
Whisper was rescued from horrific abuse 17 years ago. She had cigar burns on her behind, holes on either side of her from spurs, and the skin on her chest was rubbed raw. She had no confidence and was defensive, sad, and angry. It took Ellie and our cofounder Jay L Weiner years to heal Whisper and help her release her anger.
She grew popular among the other horses and had many friends; she was also the love of Magic's life. She adored being groomed, getting butt scratches, and bed time cookies. And in her later years she enjoyed her monthly acupuncture, massage therapy, sports medicine therapy, and energy healing. Even though her name was "Whisper" she wasn’t shy or timid — she knew exactly what she wanted and didn’t hesitate to ask for it!
Whisper passed away at the age of 25, a month shy of her 26th birthday. She had a great life at and we are all so grateful to have known her. Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, support, and kind words during this difficult time, but also for loving Whisper all these years. We'll never forget her.
