Winter Growth Myth …. BUSTED
One of the most common things we hear is
“The growth stops in the winter.”
These photos were taken this week on a vessel that hasn’t been serviced in several months.
Even in cooler water here in coastal North Carolina, marine growth does not stop — it only slows down.
That means:
• barnacles still attach
• algae still forms
• zincs still wear down
Routine maintenance isn’t about aesthetics — it’s about protecting running gear, efficiency, and fuel economy.
If you wait until spring, the damage (and removal cost) is usually already done.
