🕷️ Tick Season Alert for Delaware
Peak tick season is here! Delaware health officials urge residents to take protective steps as tick activity ramps up in June. Last year, there were 344 Lyme disease cases and over 100 reports of alpha-gal syndrome. The most common ticks include black-legged (a Lyme carrier), lone star (linked to ehrlichiosis and alpha-gal), and American dog ticks.

Protect Yourself:
• Wear light-colored clothing, long sleeves, and tuck your pants into socks.
• Use EPA-approved repellents (DEET, picaridin, lemon eucalyptus).
• Stick to trail centers and avoid leaf litter.
• Check yourself, your kids, and pets after being outdoors—tweezers are best for removal.
• Keep your yard tidy: mow, remove debris, and install gravel or wood-chip borders delawarepublic.org+2news.delaware.gov+2wmdt.com+2.

Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors 🏞️
