I still remember meeting Mike Boone for the first time at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia. I can’t remember if it was with Elio Villafranca on keys or Venissa Santi on vocals or perhaps both. To say that he’s a legend is an understatement because he also models humility and excellence.

The man is a beast on bass but he’s also one of the nicest musicians I’ve ever met — and I’ve met my fair share.

The land in Haiti is deceiving. With very little rain fall, the little that does fall helps trees and grass turn green in just a few months. But the soil is still tough. Very tough. Take your shovel to it and the find rock. Lots of rock. This makes it hard to grow food, which makes it hard to eat, hard to go to school, hard to make money, hard to pay school fees...it’s hard.

Proud of Domaine Hudson on so many levels - from sticking it out when times got tough, to knowing when to change ownership, to always putting out amazing food and wine, and last but not least, for being recognized by the James Beard Foundation. Congratulations are in order for Mark Brainard. A class act in every sense of the phrase, Mark is a leader who is deserving of his new role.

I recall strolling around campus during the shoot. There wasn't one person who Mark didn't acknowledge, giving them of his time, even though he didn't have much to spare. He puts the "community" in Delaware Technical Community College.

It's always great to see Sam & experience the musings of a man who's taste in literature, music, art, food, beer, spirits and the blending of them all continually inspire me. Congrats on Dogfish Head Beer's new venture in Chesapeake & Maine. Can't wait until March 7th.
