Leaving the bank was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. Not because I loved my job. I didn’t. I was ready for something new.
What made it difficult was everything that job represented.
For nearly 15 years, my identity was wrapped up in climbing the corporate ladder. My goals were clear. Work hard. Earn the promotion. Take on more responsibility. Keep moving forward.
And the thing is, I was good at it.
I consistently exceeded my goals, earned promotions, and built a career I was proud of. I knew who I was in that world because so much of my identity was tied to what I could accomplish.
Walking away from it meant walking away from a version of myself I had spent years building.
At the same time, I felt God leading me in a different direction. The opportunity in front of me was exciting, but it was also terrifying. I knew exactly what I was leaving behind, but I had no idea what was waiting for me on the other side.
Looking back, I can see that God wasn’t just changing my career. He was changing me. He was teaching me that my identity was never supposed to be found in a title, a promotion, or a paycheck.
What felt like a career change was really an invitation to trust Him.
And I’d make the same choice again.
