We definitely did a double take when we saw an order come in from Sydney, Australia! 

Jurgen was so kind as to share his story of how our grits found their way into his home and we couldn’t wait to share it! Keep reading to hear the rest.

“A travel friend from Alabama left us a parting gift when staying with us in Sydney, Australia. It was a bag of McEwen & Son grits, which has been diet changing for me personally and readily accepted by the family. It sat in the cupboard for a while until family came to visit and we were prepared to try grits, a new food product for all of us. One meal later, all eight of us were converted. It was our first time trying grits, and it was a hit across generations of the family, especially with our toughest critic, a 6 year old who asked for seconds. Simple, comforting and full of flavour, grits may just be the most underrated carbohydrate around. Even better, McEwen & Sons grits is organic and naturally gluten free, perfect for those of us who need that option without compromising on taste. We love !

The annual Wild Game Dinner was a night full of great fellowship, a powerful message, and awesome food — everything from venison, duck, wild hog, pheasant, camel, kangaroo, and some good grits!

We are so glad we got to be a part of such a great night and are so thankful for these relationships!

Putting a new spin on some old favorites, introducing “Dirty Grits”!

We have been grinding organic corn into delicious, stone-ground grits for over 20 years. In all that time, we have always wondered what to do with the grits the mill produces when we switch from blue corn to yellow corn. We get a mix of blue and yellow grits that don’t really have a home, and we hated to see these delicious grits go unenjoyed by our customers!

These “Dirty Grits” combine the deep, nutty flavor of our blue corn grits with the sweet, classic flavor of our yellow grits. They might be our new favorite 🤩🧈🍴

In 2002, business owner and miller Frank McEwen Sr. and his father, Ralph, stumbled upon a mill with which they were not so familiar—a stone-burr grist mill.

Before long, the father-and-son duo were producing high-quality grits made from organic corn. Frank then began giving out samples of the stone-ground grits to chefs in Birmingham, Alabama. It didn’t take long before they became a kitchen staple, and McEwen & Sons was born.

Continuing into the third generation of the family business, Frank McEwen Jr. joined his father in 2025. At McEwen & Sons, we continue to keep food as it should be—ensuring our products remain simple, organic, and, in the wise words of Frank Sr., “the way God made them.”

We had to go all the way to NYC to get our white Christmas! And as much as we love a New York bagel, we packed our own grits to add to breakfast😉
