If you saw my last post on Facebook, you know I’ve officially retired from family photography after 20 years.

For the first time in a very long time, I’m giving myself permission to be open to whatever comes next. I’m excited to explore, discover new things, and see what catches my eye along the way.

Today, a friend invited me to try Sama Yoga Center in New Canaan. We took her friend Ashley’s 8:30 AM class outside in their beautiful patio on a gorgeous summer day. It honestly felt like a mini vacation.

It also reminded me how much I love yoga. I haven’t been in many months and it felt amazing to be back at it! I have to say I’m intrigued by their yoga teacher training they offer! Hmmmmm

After class, we continued our little staycation with coffee outside at Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee and grabbed sandwiches from Tony's Deli to bring home for lunch. Double yum!

I love grabbing quick pics with my phone of places that I enjoy and sharing it with others. It’s so important to support small businesses.

I don’t know exactly where this next chapter is leading, but today reminded me how much I enjoy slowing down, exploring new places, trying new things and sharing what I find with others.

I feel refreshed, inspired, and excited for what’s ahead. What places should I try next?

Feeling a pull…

It was Spring/Summer of 2006 and I was a young stay at home mom with a baby and a 2 year old.

One day I made a last-minute decision to bring my “good camera” to school with me to get some cute pics of Olivia’s 2s class.

At pick up time I snapped a picture of a friend’s baby on her shoulder and another of a pregnant mom friend with her little one. It was a decision that proved to be life-changing.

As I showed the moms the images on the back of my camera, a lifelong dream of becoming a portrait photographer came back into focus. I felt an unmistakable pull to jump right in and, with the support of my husband, that’s what I did!

Within a month, I was working on my website, building my portfolio and officially registering my business.

Over the next 20 years I worked hard to build something I cared deeply about. A flyer I posted on the wall at the YMCA that summer brought me my first “family photo day fundraiser” and an idea that would bring me over 200 families my first year in business.

Over the years, I had the pleasure of working with countless moms. All women like me, just trying to hold onto the years that seemed to move too fast, while surviving the days that felt endless.

We were in it together. Newborns, chaos, school mornings, sports schedules, birthday parties, work and the endless search for balance that didn’t exist. All of it.

Many of you became friends. That part still means the most to me.

Now it is 2026 and my youngest is headed off to college and I feel the same pull I felt back then. A shift. Something telling me it is time for something different. I just don’t know what that is yet.

For this reason, I have decided to step away from family photography. I want to make room for whatever comes next.

It was not an easy decision but it feels right.

I am so grateful for all of it. For your trust, your belief in my talent, and for letting me into your lives in such a real way. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

While it saddens me that I won’t be photographing your families anymore, I’m confident you’ll be in good hands with one of the many talented photographers out there.

There are several whose work I admire and I’m happy to provide referrals to anyone that needs them.

Your families have been part of my life for up to 20 years and I will carry that with me. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
