Henna has been practiced since time immemorial as a way to celebrate weddings and other holidays. Brought to the western world by the original Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and south Asian practitioners, this ancient art is now used by young

and old alike to celebrate holidays, vacations, birthdays, or just because! Everything from traditional mehndi flowers, spirals and medallions to modern hearts, clover, spiders, superhero logos, names, bible verses and pretty much anything you can imagine can be done with henna. After drying and flaking off of the paste, the stain left behind lasts about 2-4 weeks depending on skin care and washing practices. I use only all-naturual ingredients, no "black henna" or caustic chemicals in my paste, making it safe for the whole family. Henna powder (made from dried and crushed leaves of the henna plant) mixed with sugar, lemon juice and essential oils are the only ingredients in my mix. I mix it all myself and use it not just on clients, but also on my whole family, including kids. Good times can be had by all, without the permanence of tattoos!

I’m headed to this weekend but wanted to share some pictures from last weekend first.

I’ve learned that at Maryland Ren Fest, you never knew what you’re going to get. The other booth artists always let me draw whatever I want, hence the tiki face on Maz (first slide). But for my there were flower strips, phone requests, mashups, and even a cool Moana request (I even squeezed Hei-hei onto her pinky finger!!). Y’all certainly keep me on my toes! I think I did okay with all those requests, check out the !!!

from a couple weeks back at Kayla Lawrence Peach Festival. Always a good time, even in the rain and fog.

I had some time back at Oakenmist Ren Faire to draw on myself. This mandala thing just kept growing. 😁

And then I had a not-henna-related-but-still-working trip to Delmarva so in between working I took my henna arm to see the beach. Hello Ocean City!

I love Street art and murals so finding all this cool art to pose awkwardly in front of in Ocean City was fun!

Here’s some from last weekend. Oakenmist Ren Faire. What’s funny about ren faires is that you never know if you’re going to meet a nun, a cowboy, or a group of soccer stars! Always good times though!

Thank you especially to my nun friend in the first slide who keeps coming back year after year to see me and gives me free reign to do whatever pops into my head, in this case a custom design with birdies on her fingers!

I also have a bunch of my Festival dates filled up so make sure to read to the end of the post for that. Missing 2 weekends in September for family plans but other than that I’m going going going all the way to the end of October. 😁

More ! Blacksburg Steppin Out is always a good time. Long drive but worth it. And I got to work with my friend Kat which is always a treat! If you want to catch more of Kat then come to Oakenmist Ren Faire on Sunday (Howard County Fairgrounds) where she’ll be sitting in for me (I was supposed to do both days but can only do Saturday for reasons).

I think I may have to add some floral bouquet designs to my book next year because the one you see here on my Casey here is one of 4or5 I did this weekend.

I’m still working out some details for upcoming festivals, so my schedule is looking thin, but I did get accepted to Ravenwood Ren Faire (now at North Mountain Vineyard in Shenandoah County) so that’s pretty cool.

You know what’s funny (to me)? I live and mostly work in or near mountains. The Appalachians are not exactly right on the coast. And yet one of my most requested designs in the book is the large jellyfish. I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a jellyfish in the Shenandoah River or up on top of the Blue Ridge. 😁😂😂😁

Always fun to draw, never gets old, I gotta shout out Henna Trails for making me put her jellyfish in my Festival design book. I was admittedly skeptical but now it’s one that both me and tons of love (as you can see with ask these photos from the last month or two)! It’s so popular I had to add the smaller jellyfish so people with a more limited spending could get their own little squishy.

Like I said in my last post, my schedule is looking a bit slim right now, but part of that is family celebrations that made me cut out some typical September events this year, and part is that I’m still finding out if/when I’ll be at MD Ren Fest (not my booth, I just work there, if you haven’t been to a ren fest you should come check it out).

Blacksburg Steppin Out is always a good time. It rains every year without fail but once the rain stops it’s go time!

I hear from so many that the wait all year to come to our booth, it’s tempting to think of moving back to Blacksburg and opening a shop (my wife and I, and loads of immediate family members, have all lived in Blacksburg to attend Virginia Tech, but that was …. a long time ago).

Thank you ask for coming, thank you for your excitement and your trust!

And also, thank you for following me here on the socials, you all are some of the only ones that tell me in person that you saw my posts.

Hey, look, ! All these beautiful people are from the Central PA Pride festival a couple weeks ago.

So ask me all the time about how long their design will last. It depends on a lot of different factors, but this series of photos is a couple designs I did on myself over the course of 12 days.

Good henna aftercare is on the back of my business cards (swipe to see the card in final picture).

Pictures in order are:
Paste on
Paste off (6hrs after paste on)
24 hrs after application
48 hours after application
7 days after application
12 days after application

Good aftercare I’ve done:
No soap/water in first 24 hrs
No heavy scrubbing in the shower.
No pool, ocean, or hot tub.
No gloves or long sleeves.

Things I could have done better:
Natural oil moisturizer (olive oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, etc)
Less towel rubbing after hand washing, at least on the design itself

So there you go, a quick idea of color and timing for your henna design when you come to me.

P.S. henna will be darker on darker skin tones but I’m white as white so this is what you get to see for now

Never too old for henna!

I have sooo many people tell me henna is for kids. Meanwhile, the bulk of my are over the age of 16, and many of my biggest designs go on folks over 40. !!!

Whether you’re 7 or 70, henna is for you, I promise!

All of these are from Chambersburg Old Market Day last weekend. I think I’ve been going there for 8or9 years now and it was good times, as always. 😀😁😀

I’m headed to this weekend. Saturday at Soldiers Grove in . Looks like weather, come get your henna on!
