Henna has been practiced since time immemorial as a way to celebrate weddings and other holidays. Brought to the western world by the original Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and south Asian practitioners, this ancient art is now used by young

and old alike to celebrate holidays, vacations, birthdays, or just because! Everything from traditional mehndi flowers, spirals and medallions to modern hearts, clover, spiders, superhero logos, names, bible verses and pretty much anything you can imagine can be done with henna. After drying and flaking off of the paste, the stain left behind lasts about 2-4 weeks depending on skin care and washing practices. I use only all-naturual ingredients, no "black henna" or caustic chemicals in my paste, making it safe for the whole family. Henna powder (made from dried and crushed leaves of the henna plant) mixed with sugar, lemon juice and essential oils are the only ingredients in my mix. I mix it all myself and use it not just on clients, but also on my whole family, including kids. Good times can be had by all, without the permanence of tattoos!

As always, Shep Fest did not disappoint! It may have rained and scared some of the other vendors to go home, but we stayed until 8:30. After all, what’s a little wind and rain when you’re trying to bring to everyone that you can find??! 😀😁😀

Honestly, the rain only lasted 30 minutes, then the sun came back and so did all my ! If you’re really good at remembering old posts then you’ll remember some of these lovely people that come to me year after year trusting me with their body art!

Some of these were , especially the first 2 ladies, and I think they may have been my favorite designs of the day. Sometimes when I draw I want to do something easy, known, and fast. But these two were challenging and I had to take my time to think and plan and I love the result!!!

And see my last post to find out about the glitter tattoos we do at festivals too. Fast drying, colorful, customizable, last 5-7 days and come off easily with soap/water/washcloth.

How many of my even knew I had these? I stick to henna, but my wife or son, if they’re at the booth that day, can totally get you covered in fun glitter!

These photos are from this past weekend at Shep Fest but don’t worry, They’ll be out and available this Saturday in Charles Town WV and of course we’ll have them at all the Independence Day festivities too.

These last about 5-7 days. The body-safe glue is similar (maybe the same???) as what’s used on fake eyelashes. There’s a stencil (unlike my hand drawn henna designs) that’s coated in glue and then colored glitter is added to make every glitter tattoo unique. Do you want a black and red dragon? Or maybe blue orange and gold skull? Or yellow purple and silver sun? All of the above and so much more, Ruth can do for you!

The glue dries much faster than henna (less than5 minutes for glue while henna takes 20 minutes) so oftentimes this is a better option for parents getting henna while your littles also want something but you’re afraid they might smoosh a henna of their own. With glitter tattoos there’s no opportunity to smoosh and you can wash it off in a couple days with warm soapy water and a washcloth. 🧼🛁

Or you can do henna too, I’m all for either/both, we’re a your-body-your-choice kinda place. 😀😃😁😃😀

I couldn’t resist posting one more picture of my lovely wife . This is her at Hagerstown Pride, sporting a plumeria design inspired by .

We’ll both be at Shepherdstown Street Fest tomorrow, 10a-8p. for miles!

Ruth not only welcomes everyone to the booth but also reminds me to eat and drink through the day, makes booth setup and takedown more organized, knows if I can do custom phone designs without even asking me, and even has extra tp for the inevitable tp-less porta-johns at all our festivals. My Queen. 😁👑😁

Also, she does glitter tattoos, which I’ll post soon. We’re usually good at taking photos of henna but we both forget to photo the glitter tattoos. We’ll do better tomorrow and then post some of her cool glitter work. It’s pretty cool.

Oh no, nothing to see here, just a bunch of recent 😃😀😃😁😃😀😃

Everyone shown is either from Front Royal Wine Fest or Hagerstown Pride. I’m very much hopping to get some more lovely on camera this weekend at !

In case you weren’t sure, I love drawing henna and really love bringing smiles to my customers! Many of these amazing people have been coming to my booth for years. It’s pretty cool to be a happy memory for so many people!!

If you look at my Festival schedule below you’ll see I have some open weekends in June. I’m thinking instead of coming shows I might take a drive to WV Ren Faire to check it out. I hear it’s a cool place.

See that beautiful lady flashing the ? She’s with me. ❤️😍😃😍❤️.

That’s my wife, Ruth , mother of our kids, chef of keeping me fed with yummy food, finder of all my lost things, maker of cool toys, sewist of renown, designer extraordinaire, bearer of all practice henna (good and bad, she’s worn it all!), glitter queen (did all you even know we had temporary glitter tattoos now?!?), and best booth babe ever (all of you out there that have helped in the booth are great, but she kisses me and gives me chocolate!).

This picture, along with all the hands in the slideshow, are from Front Royal Wine Fest a couple weeks ago. Here, as always, Ruth helped make so many smiles. Anyone that’s been to the booth and gotten glitter on their henna or a glitter tattoo knows that maybe, just maybe, she deserves her own logo of her saying “weeeeee!!!” as she glitters the world. 😄😂😄

You can catch both of us this weekend at Shepherdstown Street Fest. We’ll be on West German Street, about 7 or 8 booths down from the stage and food and drinks. Come by, , then get some glitter and “weeeeee” with Ruth. You won’t regret it. 21 years with this fine lady and I certainly don’t regret it! 😍

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that surprise me and make me smile. Little designs and little henna gigs.

2 weeks ago I did a 2 hour field day festival with Indian Hollow Elementary PTA. I honestly didn’t know what to expect but I certainly didn’t expect to be busy from the time my tent was up until after closing time. Lots of young smiles, lots of new and a great start to a busy weekend. Good times were had by all!

I have a backlog of photos to share so here’s the start.

I had the pleasure of working with Elisa (and amazing Jen who I don’t know am IG name for) for Arbutus Arts Fest 2 Sundays ago. We forgot to get any group selfies unfortunately , but just imagine lots of laughs and smiles all day long in the booth. We had fun!! Also, big thanks to Elisa for letting me use her phone for pictures all day long and to Jen for last-minute willingness to be our amazing booth babe!!!

So many returning . It’s awesome to be an annual tradition for so many people!

. Because other than the fact that this is a business that pays bills and helps feed my family, this is why I love what I do. All those smiles!

I know that not every day can be smiles and joy and whatnot. But I get to be part of so many joyous memories and I love and am thankful for that! From festivals to birthdays to weddings and vacations, I truly appreciate getting to be a part of so many smiles and joy.

Thank you everyone at that came to the booth, and I loved seeing and adorning all of you (and thank you Grace for letting me use your camera for most of the day!!).

Some of these are where I was given just a bit of direction and then told to let it rip. I used to be scared of that but now it’s fun. Still a bit nerve wracking bc I’m never 100% sure if my thoughts line up with my but most of the time it works out pretty well!
