I go to business conferences so you don’t have to.

My favorite over the past several years has been the Inbound Marketing Conference, which is going on in Boston right now.

I always, always get inspiring info on business trends and new technologies. I love it. Heard the above question yesterday and it struck a chord. I’m going to start asking this in my kick-off meetings with my clients.

So much of what we do as business owners is driven by fear. So much so that we don’t even allow ourselves to ideate what could be. Psychologically, we’re more driven by loss-aversion than possible gain. So you’re more likely to think, “hey, I will do this action in order to not lose my current clients” rather than “I will do this action to get more and better clients.”

Having a better business takes courage.

I’m here to help you muster it.

This is Boston y’all. Taken from Hull, MA. I took this last week about midway through a 7-day silent retreat. Because of the stupid pandemic, it was the first retreat I’d been on in three years.

Those of us who had the privilege to run our businesses from home were still inundated with a lot of business demands on top of lots of family togetherness.

That’s not much alone time. But being alone, and being quiet, is when the genius ideas start to bubble up and the anxiety starts to calm down. The retreat had been planned for months but I was about to flip my lid right before it started. So good timing.

For some people, downtime is going to a spa. I was at a monastery in Hingham, on a retreat led by a cool, feminist nun order I’ve done retreats with several times before. (I’m not catholic, but I love these gals.) Spartan room with a single bed. Simple monk meals. Lots of sitting and beach walking. I love it.

How do you gain true silence? I need tips for between retreats!
