Infinity was proud to host ConnStep and US Congressman John Larson this past Friday. Congressman Larson presented ConnStep with a $350,000 grant to boost advanced manufacturing in Connecticut, particularly fuel cells and clean energy. Congressman Larson praised Infinity and Connecticut's other fuel cell manufacturers, calling the state "the Silicon Valley" of fuel cells. Image L to R: Beatriz Gutierrez, CEO, ConnStepp; William F. Infinity® Fuel Cell and Hydrogen, Inc. is pleased to announce the receipt of an add-on to an existing contract from NASA for its lunar Regenerative Fuel Cell. It comes on the heels of the completion of a successful 2600 hours test on an Infinity RFC fuel cell test article in Infinity’s lab. Infinity has also previously delivered another test fuel cell stack to the NASA Glenn Research Center for internal NASA testing. The new effort will provide NASA with additional stack capability for further testing.
The lunar regenerative solar/hydrogen system is designed to power extended lunar missions throughout the cold, (-280 deg F) 14+ earth-day long lunar night. NASA projects utilization of the RFC can provide savings of up to $700 million per mission vs. use of batteries for energy storage and power generation. Infinity’s fuel cell is a scaled-up version of its NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate, STMD, funded Tipping-Point next-generation space fuel cell experiment. This Infinity experimental payload operated successfully aboard two Blue Origin new Shepard sub-orbital flights. On these flights it became the first fuel cell to reach space since the retirement of the space shuttle, and the first ever to do so on a commercial space launch.

“With a second add-on space contract this this year—one from NASA and one from a commercial space company—we continue to make progress in the rapidly growing space industry,” said Infinity CEO William F. Smith.

Infinity® Fuel Cell and Hydrogen, Inc., is pleased to announce a supplier/partner arrangement with Plug Power (NASDAQ: PLUG), a leading supplier of Proton Exchange Membrane electrolyzers.
Under this agreement Plug Power will provide Infinity with production-version, large-scale (up to 1 megawatt) lower pressure electrolyzer cell stacks. These stacks will complement Infinity’s high pressure electrolyzer and H2 pump stacks for integration into terrestrial systems.
Infinity’s high pressure stacks have been developed and designed for extreme environments, such as space, and smaller mobile microgrids, such as Infinity’s XStorra originally designed and developed under contracts from the Navy, the Defense Logistics Agency and NASA.
Infinity will employ its patented modular architecture and system integration capabilities to use Plug Power’s larger low-pressure stacks for Regenerative Fuel Cell (RFC) renewable energy microgrids and small to mid-sized green hydrogen projects. Target applications include deployable hydrogen/oxygen generators to refuel subsea and UUV fuel cell power systems. Another near term application is as part of RFC microgrid systems to replace diesel power in pristine island locations such as Fiji.
“We are pleased to have this arrangement with Plug Power,” said Infinity CEO and founder, William F. Smith, “these stack have a long successful track record and can accelerate entry into broader market opportunities for us, some of which are already being explored. It’s win-win for Plug Power and Infinity.

We are poised to become a major source of power supplies in this burgeoning market, projected to more than double in size over the next five years. With a commercial customer/partner working with us, we will soon have an off-the-shelf product to address the entire market.

The volume of UUVs is projected to grow from 1,275 (In units) in 2024 to 2,911 (In Units) by 2030.

Congratulations to our Grant O'Connor and Max Aronow for their outstanding performances in last week's Boston Marathon! Out of 30,000 entrants, Grant finished 42nd--his second consecutive top 50 finish at the event. Max came in well within the top 10% at 2748. Max is more of a miler--he's held the world record for fastest mile dribbling a basketball! Two great engineers who are also great athletes! Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen, Inc., today announced the award of an add-on contract, funded by a commercial space company, for next phase development of a next-generation space capable combined Fuel Cell-Electrolyzer system.

The study builds on current ongoing work with NASA and other partners to develop, space-qualifiable, hydrogen-oxygen electrochemical systems for various missions including for vehicle power and crew life support and lunar bases. The fuel cell subsystem is based on Infinity’s patented Advanced Passive Water Removal, APWR system being developed and tested for NASA Glenn Research Center which also recently flew aboard a suborbital Blue Origin New Shepard flight. The electrolyzer subsystem builds from three phases of previously NASA GRC funded programs. Integration and controls build from three generations of Regenerative Fuel Cell (RFC) systems developed and delivered for the U.S. Navy under programs aimed at development of RFC mobile microgrids to support forward deployed expeditionary forces.

Successful completion of this initial effort has the potential to lead to design and delivery of complete prototype systems and eventual flight systems.
