For this , we’re heading back to Fairplay, Colorado!

Completed in 2020, this freestanding entrance sign was designed to create a welcome worthy of its surroundings, with five-foot-tall illuminated letters and custom silhouettes of four burros and a miner.

Designed by DHM Design and fabricated by Schlosser Signs, the project earned a first-place tie for Best Outside Design/Shop Fabrication, Illuminated in the 2021 Signs of the Times Sign Contest.

Years later, we’re still proud of the craftsmanship and collaboration that brought this one to life.

Good work is easy to recognize when you see the finished product. But a lot of what makes it possible happens long before that.

Our latest blog looks at a few of the things we've learned about doing good work—from seeing the bigger picture and navigating complexity to sweating the details that can make all the difference.

The photos we're sharing are all from Schlosser's work throughout the ongoing transformation of Denver International Airport, where those ideas have had plenty of opportunities to show up in the real world.

Progress looks different behind the scenes.

Around here, a project in progress might mean pieces on a table, wiring still exposed or something that doesn't quite look like a sign yet.

That's part of the process. Every step gets us a little closer to what you eventually see out in the world.

Back in 2014, we had the opportunity to help bring The Rooftop at Coors Field to life.

The best projects are the ones that become woven into a place over time. More than a decade later, this feature is still part of the game-day experience for thousands of Rockies fans each season.

It's always fun looking back at work that's built to last.

A great design doesn't automatically become a great finished project.

Once a project moves beyond drawings, dozens of people and countless decisions shape the final result. Every material selection, fabrication detail, and installation choice either supports the original vision or gradually changes it.

That's why we believe good ex*****on is about more than building signs. It's about protecting the work that came before it and carrying that vision all the way through to installation.

takes us back to Village at the Peaks in Longmont, completed in 2015.

This project included a full family of signage—from monuments and illuminated directories to an entry arch and tenant signage—all designed to work together across the property. It also featured color-changing LED lighting, which was still a relatively new technology at the time.

Great signage isn't just about individual signs. It's about creating a system that feels cohesive, functions well, and continues serving the property for years to come.

When most people look at a sign, they see the finished product.

We see the vision that inspired it, the purpose it serves, the people who will use it, and the countless decisions that helped bring it to life.

Good signage doesn't happen by accident. It's shaped by design, planning, craftsmanship, and an understanding of how a space is meant to function.

Most people see a sign.
We see everything behind it.

Large projects involve a lot of moving pieces.

Sales. Design. Project Management. Manufacturing. Installation.

The challenge isn't moving a project from one phase to the next. It's making sure the priorities established at the beginning stay connected throughout the process.

When teams work together with a shared understanding of the goal, communication stays clear, expectations stay aligned, and projects move forward with fewer disconnects.

A project moves through departments. The vision moves with it.
