Today was another one of those days with fantastic weather! A perfect day to climb and install this American made Telewave UHF dipole for a new tenant needing coverage in the Farmington area for their mesh system.

Stripped down a 2020 Ford PIU patrol car and installed a used Hot N Pop kit from a retired Maine State Police cruiser. This kit provides remote rear door opening, auto window drop/electric fan on, and temperature monitoring as well as honking horn/flashing lights to alert the officer of unsafe temperatures if away from the vehicle. Then in went a used Havis, Inc K9 transport setup (I originally sold and installed in 2022) and now for about 70% less than new Winslow Police Department-Maine has a K9 vehicle.

It was like stepping back in time to the good Ole 1900s doing this M1225 install yesterday. This low mile used "new" truck was built in 1999, the same year I started my fulltime two way radio career. Back when fuses werent micro, interiors still had some metal and space to mount external speakers, and narrow band was in the future.

These newer Western Star trucks are sharp and popular but take some effort to get an antenna mounted on. Only ONE flat area- a 2" circle- available over the entire several inch thick composite reinforced roof (which involves dropping and removing the headliner from the vehicle) or mirror mounting like seen here. As long as a no ground plane antenna is used, it tunes on frequency well and keeps the whip further away from the operation of this digger's boom.

Sometimes we setup new police cruisers, other times we work on existing ones... like this one that needed a Mobile Strong cargo box installed. That meant relocating the two way radio and Whelen Core unitd to an accessible location. Lots of rewiring but everything turned out just fine.

This truck is 4 years old but needed better visibility since it only had front and rear inner edge lightbars and a pair of weak leds in the side windows... so we added 8 LED lights: 4 in the grille, 2 under mirrors and 2 on the tailgate.

Bringing 5G wireless broadband to the police car... Spent the last couple days removing Cradlepoint wireless 4G routers from 6 cruisers and installed Peplink's Max 5G routers and new 7 in 1 shark fin antenna. That one antenna has a GPS antenna, 2 wifi antennas, and 4 cellular antennas covering a wide range of spectrum over the various splits. Better signal and better speeds should lead to a better experience.

Forecast called for rain but it turned out to be a beautiful day to get a CM300d into this new Link Belt 145 excavator.
