POTENTIAL. It's a big word.

In every organization, every business, every group, there are people with POTENTIAL. They have the interest, the skills, the desire to do great things.......BUT, for some reason, you don't feel they are utilizing their full POTENTIAL.
Too often, that individual loses the fire in the belly and their performance lags and one day they walk away OR you decide you have to "let them go" WHY did this happen?

DAY ONE - The first day of a new job is critical. Information is disseminated, attitudes are formed and relationships are built...or not.

Organizations are constantly onboarding new talent. It results from growth, or seasonal requirements or from turnover. How the New Hire Orientation is conducted sets a base upon which the entire tenure with the organization is built.

The Human Resources team is focused on getting documentation completed, making assignments, answering questions about pay and schedules and legal requirements. Supervisors are interested in getting the new people working to meet requirements. All of this is usually crammed into a few hours, first thing in the morning, on the first day and can leave the new team member feeling confused, overwhelmed and filled with more questions than they had when they walked in the door.

More often than we would like, we read or hear of injuries and loss of life in the workplace. We are all also likely aware of incidents in the workplace that result in loss of productivity, personnel problems and delays. Many of these situations could be prevented, with a greater focus on LEARNING and DEVELOPMENT, or as it tends to be called, Training.

Many organizations don't budget funds or time for training. They hire people based on a resume and credentials from one job and assume that means the new hire will instantly be able to fit and work in the new position. Employees who have performed well in one position are promoted and expected to now lead other employees, yet they have not received any leadership training.

Employees are held to high standards for production, output, results, yet the only 'tool' they receive to meet the standards is an aggressive, sometimes abusive supervisor who leads by
intimidation.
