OH man… This does not happen often but when it does (especially at the end of a print) it is particularly frustrating. This was the first part for the all 3D printed wall mount monitor arm. I came to the conclusion that the part was so tall, the extruder hit the LED light frame that illuminates the platform. The light frame needs re-tooling before I printer another tall part.

An early congrats to the Winterset Community School District class of 2023. She Bakes: Cookies, Cakes and Other Takes needed some number cutters for an upcoming graduation set.

Cars is one of my favorite Disney / Pixar movie series. She Bakes: Cookies, Cakes and Other Takes needed some cutters for Lightening McQueen, Mater and some car plaques.

16yrs ago today Ellen Wade let me be part of her album cover (her title for this pic). Best decision I have made so far. I'm glad there are many more years to come.

All parts for the side monitor arms are designed. For kicks and giggles I was able to squeeze all of the parts on to the printer bed to see how long it would take to print all of the parts at the same time. PETG, 25%, 0.2mm quality. Make your guess in the comments. This would be an epic timelapse.

Well this is the final product. The mount keeps the panel pretty tight to the wall. I plan on printing some cable management clasps to make the cables look a little prettier. Now I can sit on my high chair at look straight at monitors, same standing. Arm mounts for the other monitors coming soon

3D Printer monitor mount! The center mount is based on a French cleat concept. The part that mounts directly to the monitor has a round cylinder that sets into the wall bracket and rotates horizontally for tilt. Took about 8hrs to print and I am just realizing how out of focus this timelapse is. No auto focus on the Raspberry pi camera...

This did not take as long as expected. Luckily nothing was broken or lost. Since these shelves were mounted with toggle bolts, there are some pretty big holes left behind. I don't think I am going to fill them right now. Now I have plenty of vertical room to mount the monitors higher so I don't have to look down when standing.

This is my current monitor setup. The center and right monitors are for my day job. The left monitor is my personal monitor. Most of the desk space is eaten by monitors, so I would like to wall mount them. I am going to 3D print all of the major parts. As you can see my Star Wars Lego collection is getting in the way of my vertical space, so I will have to move that. The 3D parts, successes and failures and final pics are coming.

3D Printer 101, Part 5: The Software. To create 3D objects I use a modeling software called Fusion360 (right window). Used widely by makers and hobbyists for making simple rigid designs that require specific measurements. To turn that model into a language the 3D printer understands I use PrusaSlicer (left window). I can import the model and put it where I want to print on the platform. Then PrusaSlicer cuts the model into very thin slices and makes a program file that the printer reads. I can then load that program file to the Raspberry Pi for printing (see previous post Part 4).

3D Printer 101, Part 4: The Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi is a small computer that connects the printer to our network and allows me to control the printer with my laptop. The Pi runs a flavor of Linux called OctoPi that is strictly geared towards controlling 3D printers. I can upload/run programs, change settings, move the axeses around, see temperature data and errors, collect timelapse videos with the attached camera, run calibrations and basically operate the printer without having to touch it.
