Our current major project is the refurbishment of the 1978 Gabriel Kney organ at Zion Lutheran Church in Indiana, PA. The organ was well engineered and has held up quite well, but after 45 years it was time for an overhaul.
New drawknob units and slider solenoids will be installed, as well as a reasonable complement of thumb pistons and toestuds linked to a new combination actionβthe organ's always been used as a teaching and recital instrument, but has had only 6 general toestuds and 1 memory level. The new system will have 50 users, each afforded 100 memories.
The majority of façade pipes have modest damage to the toes and feet, and the copper Trompete (installed en chamade) is quite tarnished, along with occasional dents. These stops are currently with our pipemaker. The schwimmers have already been recovered, and the pallets were refreshed. New LED lights, both for the keydesk area as well as interior service, will also be provided.
We anticipate reinstallation in January 2024. Our heartfelt thanks to Zion Lutheran Church and Dr. Christine Clewell, Director of Music, for engaging us in this work.
