Big congrats to our own Lt. Coda Fernhout on finishing the Ironman 70.3 in Madison this weekend — first triathlon, and he knocked it out. That's 1.2 miles of swimming, 56 miles on the bike, and a 13.1 mile run. Proud of you, Coda. Well done!

Structure Fire - 1400 Block of 3rd Street

Earlier this evening, Winthrop Harbor Fire Department, along with mutual aid units, responded to the 1400 block of 3rd Street for a reported structure fire. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke showing from a single-story residence. A working still alarm was requested to bring in additional mutual aid resources.

The fire was extinguished, though the home sustained major damage. On a positive note, crews were able to rescue two dogs from inside the residence. There were no injuries or fatalities reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We thank our mutual aid partners for their quick response and assistance.
