We are getting the station, cleaned up. The trucks are heading back to the station. We have a little clean up and rearranging left for tomorrow.

Thank you all that came out to support our station this weekend. The support that you showed us was overwhelming. Proceeds from this event will further our EMS department.

In the middle of the comedy show on Friday night, Wiota was paged out for a grass fire, mutual aid with Cumberland Fire and Rescue. Several of our department members left to go assist Cumberland with the fire off of County K.

The comedian had never had this happen to him, he did film our guys getting gear and heading to the trucks. He did not miss a beat. The show continued, the rest of the department adjusted and made sure no more support was need out in the field and took care of the patrons.

Thank you all that came and donated to the station, the compliments on the roast beef, cheesy potatoes, green beans were never ending. (There maybe a new recipe for Cheesy potatoes on our website.) The Jello cake was top shelf. Thank you Jess.

The lights and speakers from Charlie were excellent, no issues there. We are all so grateful for the community that we live in. This is one of the reasons that we volunteer.

After an event like this, we might be exhausted, but we are already talking about what can we do to make it better for next year. How do we make the department better and what can we do as individuals to help further this?

Thank you again, everyone for the support, conversations, the laughter that was contagious during the events, the smiles and the handshakes! Your kindness is so much appreciated.

PS. We each out to the winners of the raffle event, tomorrow. Kim, we will reserve your table for next year.

Trucks are moved out, ready just in case. Tables are set back up. The food is being prepared. We will be accepting walk ins tonight at the door.
The raffle is set up and we will be having the drawing tonight after the comedian.

We are getting ready for tonight, the food is getting prepped for tonight. John Bush, comedian from Des Moines is going to be the headliner tonight. Doors open at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:00 PM and the comedian starts at 8:00 PM.

Good morning, Southwest Iowa. The department wants to thank everyone that came out to the fund raiser tonight. The food was awesome, John DeBoer was excellent. Thank you all for coming. Hope everyone had a great time.

Why do fire department's do fundraisers?

Fundraisers allow for department's to bridge the gap between the cost of Fire Department equipment and their yearly budget. Our department relies heavily on Benton Township, Franklin Township and the City of Wiota to support the department. We have 15 active members, this includes 2 JR Fire Fighters that are in high school, the future.
Our members need to have bunker gear that protects them from the environment when engaged with a fire. This bunker gear is valued at roughly $5,000 each person. It has an expiration of 10 years, sewn in the tag. We also have SCBA (Breathing apparatus) that has an expiration date. Most of our gear requires maintenance and replacement throughout its life.
We look outwards for grants when purchasing equipment in the county or state, as well. The USDA is a main supporter for Fire Departments.
This is here you come in, your generosity will help cover the shortfalls between the needs of the station and the budget.

Good morning, it is Friday the 17th of April. Tonight we will be hosting a dinner and a show. We have got the station cleaned and are setting up for tonight. We will have availability to take some walk ins at the door. We are looking forward for John DeBoer, comedian to come to Wiota, tonight. Doors and Bar open at 6:30 PM, Dinner at 7:00 PM and Comedian at 8:00 PM. The raffle items will be on display tonight. There will be buckets in front of each item, after purchasing your tickets, write your name and phone number on the back of the ticket and deposit it into the bucket that you would like to have your name drawn for.
B&T Meat Processing - they donated a whole hog, on this raffle we will be drawing two tickets out of the bucket. The winners will have to talk to either Rick or Barry to coordinate processing of the half of hog, between both parties.
Stop by and see us tonight and tomorrow.
