Chuck’s Leadership Tip | Week of June 4

Everyone talks about time management. But here’s the truth: you can’t manage time, you can only manage your energy.

Time is fixed. You get the same 24 hours as everyone else. But your energy? That ebbs and flows. If you’re like me - there are hours in your day where you’re locked in, sharp, and unstoppable…and hours where you’re just going through the motions.

Most people schedule their day around their calendar. Smart leaders schedule around their energy.

Know your peak hours. Protect them. Do your most important work there.

Save the meetings, the emails, the admin, all the stuff that doesn’t require your best thinking for when your tank is running low.

It’s not about working more hours. It’s about putting your best energy where it counts most.

That’s how you stop being busy and start being effective.

Great day at the Portage County Business Council, Inc. 37th annual Business on the Green. Awesome to have Kurt Heuer on team Blue Collar Consulting LLC today👍. Fun to be paired with Isaac Trzebiatowski owner of Valiance Security (https://valiancesec.com/) and Dane Gregory (National Sales Manager for Carpet Cleaner, USA). The course at Wisconsin River Golf Club was in great shape, our golf game was ‘ok’, and some good connections made 👍🏌️‍♂️.

Equality gives everyone the same. Fairness gives everyone what they need to win.

Great leaders don’t just treat people the same—they see each person’s unique potential and lift them up. That’s how teams transform, performance skyrockets, and businesses thrive.

If you’re ready to lead with fairness and build a team that actually soars, let’s talk.

The honest truth?
Most strategic plans don’t fail because of bad strategy.
They fail because alignment doesn’t stick.
People nod in the room……and drift the moment they walk out.
Over the years, both leading teams and working alongside leadership groups, I kept seeing the same pattern:
-alignment that felt real in the moment… but didn’t hold.
I didn’t have a name for it then.
I just knew something was missing.
Lately, I’ve been putting language to it:
Alignment that STICKS.
Not another framework full of steps and templates.
But a way of working that centers:
- Real conversation
- Trust and safety in the room
- Leaders actually owning what they commit to
Because alignment isn’t something you declare.
It’s something you build and maintain.
And while it shows up most clearly in strategic planning, it’s rarely just a planning problem.
I’m starting to open up a few conversations with organizations that are:
- Heading into strategic planning
- Struggling to get traction on an existing plan
- Tired of plans that look good but go nowhere
If that’s you (or someone you know), I’d love to connect.

Strong leaders do not just act fast. They pause, challenge their assumptions, and look again. That moment of awareness is what separates reactive decisions from intentional leadership. When you slow down long enough to ask, “Is this actually true?” you reduce bias, improve judgment, and lead with clarity instead of impulse.

Next time you feel certain, pause. That is where better leadership begins.
