ANOTHER DEPARTMENT FUNDED!

CONGRATULATIONS TO WITT VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT!

First Due Consulting would like to congratulate the Witt Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) on being awarded $42,755 through the FY2025 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program!

This funding will allow the department to purchase much-needed firefighter training curriculum and training props, providing its members with additional opportunities to develop, practice, and maintain the skills necessary to safely and effectively respond to emergencies.

WHY IS THIS FUNDING SO IMPORTANT?

The fire service is constantly evolving. New construction methods, modern building materials, changing fire behavior, and increasingly complex emergencies require firefighters to continually improve their knowledge and skills.

For volunteer fire departments, providing consistent, realistic, and effective training can be especially challenging.

Unlike career departments, volunteer firefighters often balance full-time jobs, family responsibilities, emergency responses, and department fundraisers, all while trying to complete the training necessary to safely perform their duties.

Access to quality training materials and hands-on training props allows firefighters to practice critical skills in a controlled environment before they are needed during an actual emergency.

Training props can provide opportunities to reinforce essential skills such as firefighter survival, search and rescue, ventilation, hose advancement, emergency procedures, and other fireground operations.

Just as importantly, realistic training builds confidence, improves teamwork, and helps firefighters recognize hazards before those hazards become life-threatening situations.

INVESTING IN TRAINING IS INVESTING IN FIREFIGHTER SAFETY!

One of the greatest challenges facing small volunteer departments isn't simply purchasing equipment. It's finding the resources to ensure firefighters are properly trained to use that equipment and operate safely under difficult conditions.

This $42,755 investment will help Witt Volunteer Fire Department strengthen its training program, provide more consistent hands-on learning opportunities, and better prepare its firefighters for the emergencies they may encounter.

The benefits of this investment can also extend beyond Witt. Through shared training opportunities and cooperation with neighboring departments, these resources have the potential to strengthen mutual-aid operations throughout the surrounding area.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL GRANT AWARD — AND THIS ONE IS REGIONAL!

CONGRATULATIONS TO FOUR CENTRAL ILLINOIS FIRE DEPARTMENTS!

First Due Consulting is proud to congratulate the following departments on receiving a combined $781,030 through the FY2025 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program!

Midland Fire Protection District

Edinburg Fire Protection District

Mt. Auburn Fire Protection District

Moweaqua Fire Protection District

This regional award will provide much-needed Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment, helping ensure firefighters across all four departments have modern, reliable respiratory protection when responding to structure fires, hazardous environments, and other emergencies.

WHY IS THIS FUNDING SO IMPORTANT?

An SCBA is one of the most critical pieces of equipment a firefighter wears. When entering a burning building or an atmosphere that is immediately dangerous to life and health, firefighters depend on their SCBA to provide breathable air.

Unfortunately, SCBA systems are also among the most expensive pieces of personal protective equipment a department must maintain and replace. With changing safety standards, aging equipment, costly repairs, and limited availability of replacement parts, many smaller departments struggle to keep their respiratory protection programs up to date.

For volunteer departments operating on limited budgets, replacing an entire inventory of SCBA can be nearly impossible without outside funding.

THE POWER OF REGIONAL GRANTS

One of the things we strongly encourage at First Due Consulting is regional cooperation.

Why? Because the challenges facing one small volunteer department are often the exact same challenges facing its neighboring departments.

Regional grant applications allow multiple departments to come together, identify a shared need, and pursue funding as a team rather than individually.

There are several important benefits to this approach:

Greater purchasing power — Combining equipment purchases can create opportunities for better pricing and more efficient use of federal funding.

Improved interoperability — When neighboring departments utilize compatible SCBA equipment, it improves their ability to operate together during mutual-aid responses, share resources, and support one another during extended incidents.

Reduced administrative burden — A regional application allows departments to work together under one coordinated project rather than preparing multiple individual applications.

Stronger regional capabilities — Fire doesn't recognize jurisdictional boundaries. When departments respond together, having compatible equipment and consistent capabilities improves safety and operational effectiveness for everyone involved.

A coordinated approach to funding — Regional applications can demonstrate how a single investment addresses a shared need across multiple communities. While regional applications are not guaranteed to score higher, a well-developed regional project can make a compelling case for federal assistance.

For smaller rural fire departments, regional cooperation can make the difference between continuing to operate with aging equipment and finally having the resources needed to make meaningful improvements.

This funding will allow the department to purchase much-needed firefighting hose, nozzles, and appliances, replacing aging equipment and improving the department's ability to safely and effectively respond to emergencies.

WHY IS THIS EQUIPMENT SO IMPORTANT?

Fire hose, nozzles, and appliances are some of the most frequently used and essential pieces of equipment on any fire apparatus. They are also among the most overlooked when it comes to replacement.

Over time, hose deteriorates from repeated use, exposure to heat, abrasion, and environmental conditions. Aging nozzles and appliances can develop mechanical issues, leak, or fail to perform as intended. When firefighters are operating inside a burning structure, they depend on their hose lines and nozzles to deliver the water needed to protect themselves and extinguish the fire.

For smaller volunteer fire departments, replacing hundreds or thousands of feet of hose, along with nozzles and appliances, can represent a significant financial challenge.

This $42,090 award will help Medora Fire Protection District modernize its firefighting equipment, improve operational reliability, and provide its firefighters with the tools they need when seconds matter.

First Due Consulting would like to congratulate Prairieland Area Ambulance Agency on being awarded $44,915 in grant funding for the purchase of three EMS-grade Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices!

WHY IS THIS EQUIPMENT SO IMPORTANT?

When someone is experiencing a severe respiratory emergency, every second matters. Whether responding to a patient suffering from congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, COPD, or other serious breathing difficulties, having the right equipment available can make a tremendous difference in patient outcomes.

EMS-grade CPAP devices provide noninvasive respiratory support by delivering continuous positive airway pressure, helping patients breathe more effectively, improving oxygenation, and potentially reducing the need for invasive airway interventions.

For rural EMS agencies, where transport times to hospitals can be lengthy, having this lifesaving technology available in the ambulance is especially important.

This $44,915 investment will help ensure Prairieland's EMS personnel have the equipment they need to provide advanced respiratory care when their patients need it most.

First Due Consulting would like to congratulate the Pana Fire Department on being awarded $51,460 through the FY2025 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program!

This funding will allow the department to purchase new structural firefighting personal protective equipment (PPE), providing firefighters with critical protection when responding to structure fires and other hazardous emergencies.

🔥 WHY IS THIS FUNDING SO IMPORTANT?

Structural firefighting PPE is more than just a coat and pair of pants. It's one of the most important layers of protection between a firefighter and the extreme heat, flames, sharp objects, and other hazards encountered on the fireground.

Over time, turnout gear deteriorates from repeated exposure to heat, moisture, contaminants, and everyday wear. Even gear that looks serviceable can lose some of its protective capabilities as it ages. Modern PPE also plays an important role in reducing firefighters' exposure to harmful contaminants and carcinogens.

Unfortunately, replacing turnout gear is an enormous financial burden for many volunteer and combination fire departments. With a complete set costing thousands of dollars, keeping firefighters properly equipped can quickly consume a department's limited operating budget.

That's where grant funding can make a tremendous difference!

First Due Consulting is proud to have worked with Pana Fire Department to develop and write this successful AFG application. Securing $51,460 for firefighter protection is an investment not only in the department, but in the safety and well-being of the men and women who answer the call.
