When 911 happened, my wife had called me at home and told me of a plane hitting the towers. I remember thinking, he had to just be staring at that tower then and fixated like a driver looking at a tree will drive into the tree, I turned on my TV and saw the second one hit. I knew it was an attack.
In 84 I started my career as Executive Protection and Counter Terrorism and consulting. From my background I knew this was now going to be a never ending problem.
Within a few hours, we had clients calling for teams and our fleet of armored Suburbans.
We also had to fly a family out of the country immediately. For the next 3 to 4 months all our suburbans and teams did was move people all over the United States with a team accompanying them.
We were everywhere, I had never in my life at that point seen faces on people of complete fear outside of a war zone basically.
Everyone was angry, I was angry, it defined how life would be moving forward.
We have come alone way since then, as people and as a country, we got stronger, more prepared, more vigilant, but still kept our humanity.
Terrorism never stops, EVER, for us as people remember that, thank police officers, military personnel, firefighters, everytime you see them for their service, for they are our front line and put everything including themselves on that line everyday.
Be kinder to people than you normally would, hug your family a little more than you would and remember tomorrow isn't promised.
With everyone working together, we can become safe, see something that seems out of place, contact police immediately, a car, a backpack anything, I promise you nobody is going to be annoyed, and remember it's up to all of us, not just authorities to keep all of us safe.
