One of the most common things we hear is some version of "aren't they junk after 30 years?"

It's a reasonable question to ask. But a performance warranty is a floor, not an expiration date. It's the manufacturer guaranteeing your panels will still be producing above a certain level at year 30.

What actually happens is slower than people expect. Studies show across tens of thousands of systems the median degradation rate is roughly half a percent a year. Run that out and a panel is still making about 85.5% of its original output after 30 years.

Confused about what solar incentives are actually available right now? Take a look and find out!

We all know the 30% federal tax credit is gone for homeowners, but did you know it's still available under the right conditions? And Massachusetts still has a $1,000 state credit, 20 years of SMART payments, full retail net metering, two tax exemptions, and $275 per kW if you add a battery.

If you're still confused (and we don't blame you), visit us online or set up a call with one of our Solar Experts. We'd be happy to walk you through the details!

ISO New England runs the region's power grid, and every spring they publish a forecast of expected demand. Something in this year's version stuck with us.

Their control room can't see rooftop solar. From their side it just looks like a whole area asking for less electricity than it used to. They estimate it rather than measure it.

Across all six New England states, they project it'll take 7,056 gigawatt-hours off grid demand this year, counting panels on homes and businesses. In their words, without it the region's electricity use would run about 6% higher.

Your electric bill has two halves. Delivery goes to Eversource or National Grid for the wires. Supply is what you pay for the actual power, and that part varies a lot depending on who's selling it to you.

The Attorney General reported in March that Massachusetts households on competitive supply plans have paid $738.7 million more over the past decade than basic service would have cost.

Worth two minutes to find the supply section of your bill and see whose name is on it.

If you've ever wondered why solar permitting takes forever in one town and barely any time in the next, here's the answer. Massachusetts has 351 cities and towns, and until now, each one ran its own separate process.

The state Senate passed a bill on July 1st fixing that. Every municipality now has 18 months to adopt one standardized, automated permitting system. It's part of a bigger package aimed at cutting ratepayer bills by up to $14 billion statewide.

We handle every permit filing in-house, so this mostly means our job gets a little easier and your timeline gets a little shorter.

Massachusetts just paused tax breaks for data centers until they can prove they won't raise everyone else's electric bill. Nobody signed up to subsidize someone else's server farm.

Funny enough, that's basically the whole idea behind residential solar too. Generate your own power, stop relying on the grid to hand it to you at whatever price it decides on.

We've been helping Massachusetts homeowners do this since 2011. If the data center rule makes sense to you, the home version probably will too.

250 years. From 13 colonies to a nation of over 330 million, and we're still celebrating what makes this country worth fighting for.

This 4th of July is different. It's not just Independence Day, it's America's 250th birthday since its founding in 1776. However you're celebrating today, from cookouts to fireworks to just a day off with family, we hope it's a great one!

Happy 250th, America. 🎆🇺🇸

Today's heat is no joke. Before you push through it, take a minute to actually protect yourself and the people around you.

A few reminders:

🌡️ Drink water before you're thirsty, not after
🏢 No AC? Head to a library, mall, or your local BCYF center to cool off
🚫 Skip the fan once temps climb this high, it just moves hot air around
📞 Check in on elderly neighbors or anyone without AC

Stay smart out there. We'll see you when it cools down!

It isn't just hot during the day this week. Lows are staying in the 70s through Saturday, which means no real cooldown overnight for your body or your air conditioner.

If you've got elderly neighbors or relatives nearby, check in on them. This kind of heat is more dangerous after dark than people realize.

Stay cool (and safe), Massachusetts!
