This is the ship we saw from our Tasting Room this summer surveying our Lake Ontario. You can explore the interior of the Ship at Oswego this Wednesday 02 September! And did you know that we are within the recently established Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/lake-ontario/ ? There are a lot to explore and cherish in our Lake!

The public is invited to tour the NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The vessel will be docked at the Port of Oswego West Pier, located at 1 W 1st Street, Oswego, NY. Parking is available at the H. Lee White Maritime Museum. Visitors can tour the ship to learn about the hydrographic survey mission of the NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson in Lake Ontario, engage with representatives from Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary, and tour the H. Lee White Maritime Museum.

The sun is just about setting on my dear Lake Ontario now. There will be some cloud cover tonight, but I’d expect that we will be able to watch this astro show. Enjoy!!

Look up tonight! 🌕🔴

The Sturgeon Moon eclipse is underway, and it's putting on a show. As the Moon slips deeper into Earth's shadow, watch for that deep red-orange glow to take over.

No glasses, filters, or equipment required, just clear skies and a bit of patience.

⏰ Peak darkening hits just after midnight (12:13 AM ET) tonight. West Coast folks, that's 9:13 PM for you.

PARTIAL (ALMOST TOTAL) LUNAR ECLIPSE at late Thursday night into early Friday morning in Upstate NY (and many other locations in the US)! Yes, this will be a "partial" but it's a deep one, 96.3% of the lunar surface will be in the shadow of our Planet. Only a sliver of the Moon will remain lit up so it will be interesting to watch how it will appear to our eye!

The Moon will enter the umbra, the darkest part of the Earth shadow, around 10:30 pm around here. Look up while facing to the south to find the Moon. Then watch the Earth shadow slowly cover the Moon surface. The max of the eclipse will happen around 12:13 Friday morning. Then the Moon will proceed to exit the umbra.

A BONUS - maybe? - is that Geomagnetic Storm Watches are in effect just around when this Lunar Eclipse will be taking place. So, if you stay up to witness this eclipse, you might be lucky to see some northern lights in the northern sky. Just turn back toward the north every now and then to see!

Thursday appears to be a bit stormy during the day, but by the time of the Eclipse, the clouds will be likely broken up. Since the Moon is a bright object, we should be able to see the eclipse through the clouds, at least some. So, get ready and enjoy!

22 August STARRY STARRY NIGHT is CANCELED due to the anticipated storms tonight.

Sky is getting overcast at the winery as of 4:30 pm. Strong thunderstorms are entering WNY, as you can see in this satellite image, that will eventually reach here tonight. We'd rather be safe than sorry so no Stargazing tonight.

Next planned Starry Starry Night will be a week from today, 29 August. Please plan to join us then!
