The Economist is helpful in providing fresh external commentary about what is going on here in the US as well as globally. However, like most other international or national news orgs they also can have a rather parochial and short sighted view of anything that happens "outside the Beltway" when it comes to policy issues. That is why I found this article to be unusually insightful in terms of trying to explain the fifty states and how what happens across the country impacts national policy. It has an excellent temporal chart showing US states and partisanship over the last fifty years.
This will have profound implications for the union
