Last year, private equity-backed platforms closed 466 acquisitions of independent MSPs in North America. A lot of the companies we came up alongside over the years have been bought out and renamed since then.

Tomorrow, IP Consulting turns 20. We are still privately owned and still founder-led.

Founder Milton Moore started this company in 2006 out of an office one of his clients let him use. There was no promise any of it would work. It worked because people took a chance on a small company and then kept taking that chance, year after year.

Our actual anniversary lands on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend this year, so we are starting the celebration today and keeping it going all month.

I was drinking my coffee this morning thinking about this book I'm reading, "Inside the Box" by David Epstein. It's all about constraints and talks through an example of General Magic in the 1990s and how they had every resource imaginable at their disposal, but the product failed.

And I was thinking about how often I talk to people who feel they should be doing more with the tools, resources, and advice available, myself included. Add on the pressure of feeling like you're already behind when everything is accessible all the time...

The clarity is what's lacking.

The average enterprise security stack now sits at 45+ tools, and breaches keep happening anyway. Buying every tool the industry calls essential doesn't make your organization more secure. Accountability does. Clear ownership, governance, and operational discipline do.

It's a common thread with new clients. The gap is sometimes a missing tool, almost always fuzzy on the owner.

When you bring clarity to who owns what so your team doesn't feel part of an Abbott and Costello skit, that creates long-term protection.

Cyberattacks on U.S. Water Systems Are Active Right Now

Water utilities across at least 12 states are being targeted. Attackers are exploiting outdated equipment and default passwords to disable alarms and lock out operators from their own systems. More than 30 facilities in Minnesota alone are affected, and the threat is still ongoing.

If you manage or oversee a water utility, there are four things to do today:

- Disconnect facility systems from the internet where operationally possible
- Activate manual override capabilities on critical systems
- Make sure staff know how to operate those controls manually
- Change all default passwords immediately

Water infrastructure has been under-secured for years. This is the predictable result of that gap.
