Our expert, Kaushik Ganguly, breaks down what it means for your platform—and what it takes to get there.

This isn’t a routine patch. The update impacts the runtime, OAuth stack, Drools, and the full shift from javax to jakarta. All must be in place by August 31, 2026.

Timelines vary by starting point:

- On 2211: ~8–14 weeks
- On 2205 or earlier: ~16–26 weeks (with 2205 support ending July 31, 2026

On 2211, plan for 8-14 weeks. On 2205 or earlier, plan for 16-26 weeks, since support for 2205 ends July 31, 2026.

Treating SAP's JDK 21 update like a patch? It isn't.

Runtime, OAuth, Drools, and the entire javax to jakarta namespace migration must be completed before August 31, 2026. This takes longer than a usual upgrade.

If you're already on 2211, plan for about 8-14 weeks. If you're still on 2205 or earlier, expect 16-26 weeks, since you'll need to reach 2211 first. Mainstream support for 2205 ends July 31, 2026, before the JDK 21 deadline even arrives.
