Wine poured, glass in hand. Now what?

While there’s no “right way” to drink wine, these 3 tips can help you make the most of your sip:

1️⃣ Smell before tasting.
The majority of flavors we taste actually comes from scent. While your tongue can pick up acidity, sweetness, bitterness, etc., your nose picks up on the nuanced fruit, floral, and earthy qualities that we love in wine. If the wine is tight, a quick swirl can help release its aromas.

2️⃣Let that first sip coat your entire mouth.
Different parts of our mouth can pick up different flavors and textures. You might feel the bright acidity on the tip of your tounge, or structured tannins in your cheeks. Don’t miss those nuances!

3️⃣ Be present.
Take a moment to enjoy. What do you like about this wine? Does it taste better with food? What flavors does it leave you with? Wine can be meditative and gives you the chance to appreciate different varietals, winemaking styles, and learn your preferences – so enjoy the process!

In the next episode we’ll give you a deep dive on one of Washington’s favorite varietals. Any guesses?

Until then, cheers! 🍷
