Our CEO, Amotz Brandes, has been fielding a massive uptick in calls from clients worried about what recent museum heists could mean for their collections.

“Nobody wants to be the next museum hit,” he said in a recent Wall Street Journal article. Museum security directors have been eagerly seeking risk assessments from us ever since October's Louvre heist. This month's robbery at the Mario de Andrade Library is hastening their sense of urgency.

Thieves target precious jewels, artwork, and artifacts for all sorts of reasons, including ransom, collateral, and even resale (although less common than one might think). And clearly, they're getting better at it.

Don't wait to become a victim. Connect with us on how to reduce your risks through careful planning and assessment.

The world can feel like a crummy place sometimes, especially when every headline you read is full of doom and gloom.

Security is a somber subject matter for sure, but it doesn’t have to be. There are plenty of success stories worth sharing. Including this one.

Last week, Cloudflare revealed it successfully mitigated what is now the largest recorded distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack in history.

The attack was just over a minute-long and hit roughly 15,000 destination ports per second. However, even its unprecedented scale was no match for Cloudflare’s automated defenses, which detected and absorbed the spoofed traffic within seconds.

Cybersecurity is a huge portion of what companies like us research and practice. And oftentimes, it can feel like a losing battle. So, hearing about achievements like Cloudflare’s puts a smile on our faces – and we hope it does the same for you, too!

Thanksgiving is almost here, and it's got us feeling thankful for many things.

In particular, we're grateful for museums...
..which is why we wrote a blog post about them! Check it out 👉: https://chameleonassociates.com/how-museums-get-robbed/

Museum security is an overlooked and under-resourced field. That's why we chose to incorporate it as a key focus of our business when first starting up. We've since gone on to build working relationships with curators, directors, and conservators from around the world, offering our services to keep their collections and guests safe.

Chameleon's CEO, Amotz Brandes, says it best: “From our work with museums around the world, we’ve learned that proactive security is always more effective — and far less costly — than reacting after a crisis. Once an incident occurs, the knee-jerk spending that follows is almost always higher than what a thoughtful, preventative approach would have required. Recognizing the threat early and allocating resources intelligently is essential for any museum that wants to stay ahead of risk.”

Thanks, museums, for being an artistic, historical, and cultural haven. You keep doing what you do, and we'll keep helping you do it through world-class security training and consultation.

British intelligence (MI5) has alerted lawmakers to a concerted espionage campaign against those in positions of power.

According to the report, China has established a vast network of spies to influence political figures into disclosing state secrets and championing detrimental policies.

This tactic isn't new. Adversarial nation-states regularly conduct covert operations against their enemies. The resulting consequences might not always make headlines, but rest assured, they can be devastating.

Espionage is a threat that can be internal or external. It's essential for organizations, especially those serving government clients, to be vigilant for the telltale signs of foreign influence.

Think shooters are the only perps behind public assaults? Think again.

Countries like the United Kingdom know all too well the devastation a violent criminal can cause, even if they're armed with little more than a blade.

A pedestrian boarded a train from Doncaster to London King's Cross on Saturday, carrying a concealed knife on his person. Shortly after departure, he proceeded to stab 10 passengers, leaving them in critical condition.

This disturbing event demonstrates how an active threat inside a confined space can quickly turn disastrous. The environment is perfect for an assailant: low security, high population density, and no clear escape route for victims.

We pour millions of dollars into plane security. But what about buses? Trains? Metros? Criminals don't care about the mode of transportation; they care about access and opportunity.

World leaders have been jet-setting far and wide to hold meetings on everything from trade negotiations to defense strategies.

But when VIPs of this caliber touch down in a country not their own, there's more than a buzzing media presence waiting on the tarmac to receive them.

Foreign dignitary security is a niche field that blends executive protection with all manner of sub-disciplines (cyber, physical, etc.).

Coverage of U.S. President Donald Trump's ongoing East Asian diplomacy tour demonstrates just how involved these preventative safeguards are, and everything that goes into them.

By now, you’ve heard about how a team of four burglars robbed one of the best-guarded museums in the world.

But what you might not know is how they managed to avoid getting caught.

The answer is simple: they did their homework.

Threat actors don’t operate in a vacuum. They study you. Watch you. Follow you. They plan and scheme and wait until the moment is right to strike. That’s exactly what happened in Paris.

The Louvre was under construction, and the thieves in question took advantage of the gallery’s lack of security, high crowd volume, and used methods that were sure to draw the least amount of detection.

It’s a lesson for all that even when things seem calm, there’s always a storm brewing in the background. Organizations must use examples like these to plan not for possibilities, but for eventualities.

Don’t grow complacent; update your threat, risk, and vulnerability management plans today!

When something feels off, knowing what questions to ask and how to ask them can mean the difference between a minor inconvenience and a major organizational, financial, or physical disaster.

Join us next Tuesday, October 21, for our Security Questioning webinar. It’s free, and you’ll walk away with invaluable information on how to neutralize threat actors using just smart dialogue.
