Water pollution sources: Urban runoff, Atmospheric runoff, and Farm runoff. Urban runoff occurs when chemicals and other substances run down the concrete and flow directly into water sources. Farm runoff occurs when fertilizers, pesticides, and animal waste end up in the waterways in high quantities. Atmospheric runoff occurs when rain and snow absorb pollutants from cars and industrial sources and carry the pollutants to the waterways.

The EPA is working to reduce algae blooms in Lake Erie by creating a 40% reduction in the amount of phosphorus entering the water by 2025. Runoff needs to be decreased by implementing better sewage treatment and by having better farm practices in place. - Stormwater One.
