About the job:
Duties Include:
➡️ Develop, write and administer logging and silviculture contracts.
➡️ Perform harvest layout and permitting.
➡️ Write organized and informative technical reports such as timber management plans.

Education:
Typically requires a BA/BS in Forestry, Forest Management or Natural Resource Management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
➡️ Minimum of two-years experience working as a professional forester.
➡️ Requires professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of forestry including: silviculture, aerial photo analysis, pathology, entomology, ecology, and biological sciences as related to forestry.
➡️Required field experience and knowledge in the area of Forest Management Plans, forest inventory, timber harvest administration and silvicultural practices.
➡️Requires knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the management of forest resources
➡️Requires experience working with GIS to provide information needed to update maps regarding stand treatments, boundaries, stream locations and stream classification.
➡️Ability to contract with third parties to perform silviculture related services (herbicide spraying, reforestation, pre-commercial thinning) to meet specific objectives.
➡️Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects from initiation to completion in an efficient manner.
➡️ Ability to work alone in the outdoors over rough, brushy, and uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
➡️ Experience in log marketing and log accountability.
➡️ Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
➡️ Strong communication skills.
➡️ Provide advice and expertise to forest landowners.

Red flag warning in effect tonight into Wednesday morning for portions of Clark, Skamania, and Cowlitz County. Fuels are dry and there is always a chance of wildfire starts from these forecasted dry lightning storms.

Here is an increment borer sample taken from a 37-year old Douglas-fir. This sample helps explain how a well-timed commercial thin can reduce stand competition and allow crop trees to put on more annual growth once released.

Does your forest need to be thinned?

Thinning projects reduce the competition for much needed water, sunlight, and nutrients within the stand. The healthiest trees are selected to leave, and the suppressed and/or dying trees are removed. These stand improvement projects provide landowners with not only a healthy and vigorous forest, but the treatment can also reduce fuel for wildfires, and promote a faster growing, higher quality sawlog.
