On Wednesday, Sept 2, John Whatley led us in our devotion. He told us that he had asked his step son the question What Would Jesus Do? That question was originally posed by Charles Spurgeon in 1891. His hypothetical situation was a robber coming in to your home, pointing a gun. The robber’s hands were shaking. He demanded you to hand over your valuables. What would your response to be? Men tend to respond with violence, to protect. Women would be more submissive - obedient. In a continued dialogue John’s step-son eventually said he would ask, “Why do you want to rob me? Are you feeding a drug habit? Or are you feeding your family? Would Jesus put the robber in the "Love Your Enemy" group? Would you share your faith with the robber? Matt. 5:39
Marianne Butler of the Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County spoke to us next. Her clients come to her from referrals by people in the community. She said their stories are important. The average hotel stay is one week. Most people take 6 months to reach stability. They can move into transitional housing, for up to 2 years. They have a goal of building a community for them to move into and begin rebuilding their lives. It will be called Restoration Village. One of the surprising things we learned was that many homeless people are employed! They just don’t make enough to pay for rent, vehicle, insurance, utilities, food, medicines, etc. They found that typical items given to food pantries don’t work in a motel room. Marianne has volunteers help with packing Motel Meal Kits, which provide items that can prepared and eaten in their rooms. Warming stations during the winter have been a wonderful resource by 3 churches in our county: FBC Woodstock, His Hands and Woodstock City Church. FMC Canton is joining them this year.

We are thrilled to announce that we're looking forward to hearing from Marianne Butler, the dedicated Executive Director of Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County , who has made it her mission to partner with our local community to make a significant difference in the lives of those who desperately need shelter. Her tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we can't wait to hear about her latest initiatives and success stories. 🏠💕

Wednesday morning, we were blessed to hear from three of our favorite non-profits! First up, was Sabrina Kirkland, Encompass Ministries . She reported on all of the wonderful things they do to help those that are struggling to make ends meet. They start with basic groceries. If the recipients are open to receiving additional help, then they do get help with employment strategies, from resume workshops to interviewing skills. Then, assistance finding employment after that. They have a financial literacy class, which helps with living inside their means (to the penny). 9 out of 10 people find gainful employment in this program. Those going through the program get additional food box days, along with fresh meat and produce.
Then, Amber Jones, Serenade Heights, Inc. told us about their program. They help single moms with housing and education. The moms accepted into their program must want to change! It's a two year commitment. They take moms with children 16yrs old and younger. They have evening workshops that are open to additional moms. Amber is a graduate from Serenade Heights. She completed their program and she obtained housing through Habitat for Humanity. She's a wonderful success story!
Finally, Laura Haigler, The HOPE Center Woodstock spoke about the impact that has been made through their ministry. She showed a moving video about a mom who chose to keep her baby 31 yrs ago. That baby has grown up into a wonderful man, who is pouring into others to this day. Laura told a couple of testimonials about former prospective moms and dads making choices to keep their babies. The Hope Center continues to invest in those young parents' lives for 2 years after their babies are born. The parents can earn Baby Bucks, so that they may shop for items needed/wanted from their store.
Every one of these ministries needs volunteers, prayers and donations. Go to their websites to learn more about how to help the one that speaks to you the most.
Faith Driven Entrepreneurs will be having their annual Watch Party this September. With FBCW adding Dan Moran to their staff, they plan to host a church-wide event. It will be on 9/18/26 from 8:30-10:30am. The cost is $39 and registration is required. I will post the link under comments to keep the FB/IG algorithms happy.

Ben Harper, Freedom Wealth Coaching, led us in a thought provoking devotion. He spoke from John 13: 14-15 and used Jesus' type of leadership to ask us to find a partner (that we didn't know very well) then ask 2 questions: Name one challenge our business/non-profit is facing. How can I serve you this week?
After that, William Renshaw the CFO for The Fox Theatre spoke to us. He told us a little about his work history and his recent move to Woodstock. As a bean-counter, he placed a bowl of assorted dried beans on his desk on Dec. 1, 2024. There were 1,111 beans in the bowl at that time. Each day since then, he has removed one bean. Those that have been in his office have not noticed. He encouraged us to notice trends, even if they are barely perceptible, because we might get surprised by a change that slipped past us. He pointed out that Cash Flow forecasting keeps bad surprises from happening. Biblical references were Prov 27:23 and 2 King 12:15. He had practical tips like knowing our competitors' financials, if possible. Break out our variable vs fixed expenses, take notice if the receivables slow down and look for working capital squeeze. Data integrity is important. He shared the significance of the decreasing beans is (585 now). If you want to know, you will need to ask him. He recommended that if we can, to go see Hamilton, when it comes next month to The Fox Theatre . The was a little talk about possibly getting a group trip organized. Any one interested?

Wednesday morning, Jon Franz, founder of Jon Franz Creative, LLC, spoke to us about a favorite book, The Circle Maker. He told the story of Honi, who used a staff to draw a circle in the sand during a severe drought. He refused to leave that circle until God provided the rain that was so desperately needed. It encourages us to pray big prayers. From there, he pointed to John 4. We have not, because we ask not, God opposes the proud and Resist the Devil and he will flee from you.
Craig Mosgrove, Co-Pastor at and Account Executive at , shared his testimony. His initial exposure to Christianity was powerful. So much so, that he led his entire family to Jesus within 3 months! He believes that American churches will need to change in the near future, if they are going to survive. He said that capitalization and talent needs to be unlocked. Most ministry is done in the Marketplace, NOT in churches. Hope is carried by believers and it needs to be spread in the Marketplace. From there, he shifted to Philippians 4. Paul was in prison when he wrote about Joy. Verse 7 talks about Peace of God and verse 9 it's flipped to the God of Peace. He talked about the awful statistics of anxiety and depression affecting adolescents and young adults since 2020. Peace is a person = Jesus. Praying, supplication and thanksgiving are are keys to having burdens released. Craig told the story of Charles Blondin, a famous daredevil who crossed the gorge at Niagara Falls multiple times on a tight-rope. He made a point, at the end to offer a wheel barrow ride to anyone who truly believed he could cross with them safely in the wheel barrow. He wrapped up with The Hopeful medication of meditation. We were encouraged to meditate on all of the lovely things that draw our thoughts away from the negative and help us cope.

This coming Wednesday morning, Aug. 12, we're excited to welcome Craig Mosgrove, who will be sharing his inspiring Faith in the Workplace testimony with us. He works with the Bitner Henry Insurance Group and is also a co-pastor at Dwelling Place Church .
Additionally, we're grateful to have Jon Franz, founder of Jon Franz Creative, LLC, who will be leading us in a thought-provoking devotion that will surely uplift and motivate us to tackle the rest of the week. Join us for an unforgettable morning of inspiration and connection!

Wednesday morning, we were blessed to have Rena Olsen visit us!
The meeting started with Sylvia Alvarez, The Intentionals, opening our meeting with announcements, since James Cordell, Dignity Memorial , had business obligations.
Joe Guarino, Go Joe Go gave our devotion. He encouraged us to change the question, "What's God's Will for My Life?" to "What's God's Will?" He pointed to a couple of verses in Romans 12: 22 and Romans 12: 1-2. God wants us to look for what is good, acceptable and perfect. Then, to consecrate ourselves, offer our bodies as living sacrifices, to set ourselves apart and to not conform to this world. By doing so, we are offering a true & proper worship.
Rena Thaxton Olsen, RTO Publishing, was introduced. She has a podcast, . She is an inspirer of others and chooses to focus on non-believers. She told us the story of her mom's journey with Alzheimers, and her passing 28 years ago. When Rena looked back, her mom's joy, despite extremely difficult life circumstances stood out. Rena's name = Joy! She wrote a children's book which told her mom's life story, through the Great Depression, World War 2 and the Dust Bowl. Maxine's Joy talks about Alzheimer's, too. All proceeds from this book go to help other families on the same journey that her family experienced. Rena has a book in the final phases of editing and publishing now. It is called The Be Attitudes. It has 50 chapters, corresponding to 50 attributes that would have us living like Jesus. While that book is in the hands of others, she has started to flesh out a new book, WaHo Saves! It will talk about what is right with Waffle House (Respite for all).
