The morning of June 17, we had a wonderful gathering of friends, celebrating 10 years, since God launched WCBN, with Jeff Nevison's (Mountain Lakes Insurance - Woodstock, GA ) obedience.
The meeting started with a devotion by Tom Larson (retired & family shepherd). He talked about the Christian Worldview. This includes a Heart for Jesus, strong work ethic, emotional intelligence, spiritual maturity, being teachable and having integrity.
This was followed by multiple people (members of WCBN past & present) sharing their thoughts. They all gave thanks to Jeff Nevison for starting WCBN and sticking it through the past 10 years. There were times, in the beginning, where Jeff wondered if anyone else would show up, to the COVID Zoom meetings, to the present, with the room, full of people!

Mark Hutchins, Good Friend Mortgage led our meeting last Wednesday talking about the shifts in thinking concerning Christianity and Churches today. People are looking for secular stuff and not Theological doctrine. There's consumer Christianity and self-centered theology. Online services are preferred to being in person now. True Christ followers are sacrificial givers, actively serving and displaying spiritual gifts. For references, please see James 1:23-25, Romans 12:3-8, Matt 28: 16-20 and Matt 22: 36-40.
Right after this, Sylvia Alvarez, The Intentionals, shouted "BINGO!" We were playing King James Bingo with words on the board that are mentioned frequently by our leader, James Cordell, Dignity Memorial .
Angela Pilcher, Unite HomeSchool taught us under the YDKWYDK topic about CANVA and Marketing. She had a great presentation showing us how to use their Elements and Templates. Then, she showed us how to apply branding information to adjust colors. CANVA is easy to access and one design can be pushed out on multiple platforms. We were shown the magic resize button. For flyers, she recommended that we use layers, which adds dimension and appeal. She explained that the platform also has a simple video editor.

On Wednesday, Sylvia Alvarez, The Intentionals, led us with a talk about Forgiveness. Specifically, about forgiving other believers. She read from 2 Cor 2:10-11 and 2 Cor 12:7. She pointed out that these verses need to be looked at in context of what was happening at that time? If we view the "thorn" in reference to verse 11, we can see that it probably was "people" that were so aggravating to Paul! If we understand the context, we won't be "Outwitted by Satan."
Then, Debra Brazell, Owner of Caring Senior Service - Atlanta Northwest Metro, spoke about the challenges of aging in our area. Different types of housing options were discussed, which included what is and is not allowed by state regulations. The cost of care is a major concern for most. Price ranges for the various housing arrangements were given. Home Care is an option in any of the residential arrangements. Cost varies from a few hours of simple companionship to 24/7 bedside care, at the end of life.
We talked about Medicare, both traditional and advantage plans. The fact that Medicare will pay for medical care and not custodial care is important for people to understand. We briefly touched on Medicaid, Long Term Insurance, VA programs, GUIDE respite program, and reverse mortgages. We could have gone on and discussed more, but ran out of time!

Angela Pilcher, Unite Homeschool Network, led us with a very thought-provoking devotion on Wednesday. She talked about Abraham leaving everything familiar to him, to follow the Lord in Genesis 12. He didn't know the outcome. Ask yourself, are you building your own kingdom as a business owner, or His? She wrapped up, telling us about George Müller and his deep faith. He believed that God would provide meals for the orphans in his home, when there was no food, nor milk! God did provide, as George believed He would!

The Holy Spirit was evident, immediately after, when Michael Caldwell, City of Woodstock, GA , got up to speak. He pivoted and spoke about our nation's beginning first, before talking about the topics he had planned to speak about. He talked about our country 250 years ago and the "Great Experiment." Self Government had never been tried before and it should have failed. Ben Franklin spoke passionately at the Constitutional Convention. He pushed for prayer, seeking God's guidance. “I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth — that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?”

On Wednesday, May 20, James Cordell, Dignity Memorial , opened us up with Phil 1:3-5. This prayer from Paul is an example of being grateful for fellow believers, praying for them and reminds us to continue to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, wherever we are.

Elizabeth Pease, The Intentionals, led us in a Workshop which focused on Succession and Legacy. At the beginning of the session, we were asked to remember treasures we have gained from others, whether tangible items, or good advice. Elizabeth shared several examples of people from the Old and New Testaments who left wonderful legacies. She reminded us that our name, character, reputation and authority are important. Also, not to limit legacy to biological family. Matt 7:21-23 reminds us that it is very important to KNOW Jesus, not just use his name. It teaches us the importance of living out our faith.
