Twenty Five years has passed. Twenty five years and I’m sure that everyone that reads this today can recall where they were, what they were doing, the feelings of fear, grief, and anger washing over them and reoccurring for days and weeks.
Here in Woodsville, only six of our members were a part of the fire service at that time; Steve Robbins, Jason Fullerton, Jeff Brooks, Bill Heywood, Kevin VanNorden and Charlie Hanson was over in Woodstock at that time. Two of those men would go on to fight terrorism for our country overseas as a result of the events that sparked a tinderbox on this day.
Many new members have found it necessary to invest time and effort into their communities since. Those of us that are in the realm of forty years old now can recall watching the day unfold from school as kids.
The sting may have faded but it has not left.
As a nation that to some of us, feels more divided now than ever. Please take a moment with us today to reflect upon how it felt to be an American for the weeks and months following the attacks that our nation suffered on this date twenty five years ago. Remember how many flags were proudly displayed. Remember how neighbor cared for neighbor. Remember that in one day 2,977 souls were lost. 343 of them being firemen that were working to save the lives of others.
Please. Never Forget. 🇺🇸
