Here at OPE we have customized our test bench to facilitate "real time" capacity testing of deep cycle batteries. This allows us to compare the amp hour ratings of the battery companies with the actual test capacity. Our system is designed to apply specific loads to the batteries until they reach 10.5v, at which point the battery charger automatically turns on and the loads turn off. This cycling can be repeated several times unattended, while we monitor it remotely through Victon's VRM program. Often, this repeated cycling will restore capacity to a used or slightly damaged battery. In addition to capacity testing LiFePo4, AGM. and PB Acid batteries, other functions performed on the test bench include:
•Programming Victron Inverter/Chargers
•Program regulators for our American Power System alternators
•Measure solar panel output and performance
•Troubleshoot system components
•Attempt to replicate system problems to find solutions.
In this photo the bench is set up to mimic the output of a solar panel to help a customer troubleshoot strange voltages from their solar array. In the end, the troublesome voltage was caused by a loose connection.
