Simple really. Yes, you can burn them. However, there are limitations to outdoor fires and you may prefer another method. We have two local drop boxes for responsible flag disposal: Buehler’s Milltown and the American Legion on Sylvan road.

If you are going to invest in organizing products, buy the highest quality you can for your budget. The return will be noticeable from start to finish.

I’m not big on pushing product for organizing, but high-quality products used strategically can make a world of difference. Remember, you are looking for tools that provide a solution, not more things to add to existing clutter!

Wednesday thoughts:

Before the industrial revolution, it was common for a person to own three outfits: One for Sundays and two to rotate and wash for daily wear.

Today, we buy about 53 new items of clothing per year, and generate around 82 pounds of clothing waste. Many of the things we buy are only worn 7-10 times before being discarded.

You probably wear about 20% of the clothing you own 80% of the time.

Don't believe me? Test it. Put a piece of paper in your drawer behind or under what you put away freshly laundered. How often do you pull from behind/under the paper? Tie a piece of ribbon on your hanging rod in the closet. If it gets worn, it hangs in front. See what stays behind and for how long.

What would it feel like to manage less than half of what you do now? What would that do for your closet? How much time would you save doing laundry? How might it change your buying habits?

The short-term impact of the waste you create by decluttering now can have a significant positive effect on your long-term carbon footprint.

By understanding how you got here and adjusting your buying habits, you will reduce the amount you discard regularly over the long run.

Stop glorifying your piles and “chairdrobes.” Just put the darn clothes away!!! If they need washed, put them in the laundry!! They aren’t diseased! Most pieces of clothing can be worn several times before they need laundered. You are smart enough to know when that is.
What else are we overcomplicating?!?

Simple truth. You can’t organize too many things! An overcrowded space is impossible to efficiently maintain. Too many things overcrowd your space, your time, and your process. Before you can organize, you have to declutter, pair down, simplify, and prioritize. The more you declutter, the easier, more effective, more impactful, and longer-lasting the outcome!
