Child custody and child safety cases seem to be on the rise. It’s statistically true that when parents are fighting over custody, visitation, going to court constantly, the person that suffers most is usually the child. These are cases I throw my heart and soul into. I hope this influx of child custody cases calms down a bit and I can continue to work on missing persons, non-competes, cheating spouses, etc.

CONFIDENTIALITY! First and foremost! Never, ever, should or would Lyons Investigations EVER utter a word about a case to anyone. Confidentiality is simply the most important factor between a client and the investigator. A person from an investigative agency in another state contacted me and said that one of the investigators there actually posted confidential things about a big case on his FB site. That is shocking, unethical, and frankly disgusting. If that person worked for me, they would be gone in a nano second and probably sued if possible.

I am frequently asked if I can put a gps tracker on someones’s vehicle. The short answer is no. But, here is what the MA General Laws say: if the tracker is going on the vehicle owned by the requestor then yes. In other words, if one spouse thinks the other is going somewhere they shouldn’t be going and they co-own the vehicle then yes. If asked to put it on a vehicle not owned by the person asking, then a definite no. Parents often are concerned where their new drivers in the family are going and a tracker is useful. Always err on the side of caution on these things. Feel free to share this post.

Infidelity is on the rise again. I try to track why there are periods of time when we don’t receive many infidelity inquiries and why certain times we do. The only thing I can think of right now is that the Holidays are over. Prior to the Holidays, it was about locating family and friends. That makes complete sense. It should be interesting to see what’s next. I’ll keep you updated on the next case type trend.

Google often lists businesses as “Open 24 hours.” That is a default setting. I can tell you now, if you call Lyons Investigations at 2:00 a.m. like last night nobody is going to answer your call. Usually the call is placed by someone under the influence that barely makes sense. There is nothing anyone can do for you in the middle of the night so just wait until the next day to call when clearer heads prevail. Thank you.

The holidays are approaching. With that comes an awful lot of investigative requests to find a friend or relative. Please try to have as much information as possible, like full name, date of birth or age range, when you ask a P.I. to search for someone. This is particularly important if the subject has a really common name.

Understand that when you call an investigator, giving the pertinent details of what you are looking for is the most important factor. Then, I always tell people that even something that seems insignificant should be mentioned. But, telling me what your mother, father, sister and brother think is usually not helpful. What do YOU think is happening? When did you first notice it? How did you come to the conclusion something is off? Be prepared to have to answer a lot of questions when you call a P.I.

Wisely, when parents are concerned about who their children are about to marry, they should call Lyons Investigations. A father that is never asked for his blessing has to be concerned for his daughter. This is just a small example. When there is concern about who your child is dating, or thinking of marrying, run it by us. It never hurts to discuss your concerns. Gut feelings are more often correct than not.

Doing a person search for someone can be costly to the client when key information is not provided. Like they always say, “Time is money.” Without as much information to use in the search as possible, the case becomes more time consuming for the investigator. Always try to provide the full legal name, last known address, and date of birth if possible. If you don’t have the date of birth, provide an age range.
