Today we announced our first-in-the-nation automated enforcement program targeting overweight trucks on the BQE. It will help reduce wear and tear and preserve the lifespan of the BQE. The program will begin for Queens-bound traffic with a 90-day warning period starting 8/10.
This cutting-edge tool builds on Mayor Eric Adams's effort to deliver a long-term fix for the New York City-owned portion of the BQE. We thank Governor Kathy Hochul, State Senator Andrew Gounardes and Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon for passing and enacting legislation that made this possible.
