I'm often asked to make introductions to companies we see in the news, that nonprofits think would make great partners (based on the amount of money they grant). Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as going where the money is. You have to go where the passion is.
As an example, the Mav's Foundation is VERY generous, but they have certain "pillars" that they support. I'm sorry, but if you don't fall into those passions, you probably aren't a fit.
From the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP):
For more than 28 years, The Mavs Foundation has been committed to empowering communities through investment in youth, families, and equitable access to opportunity. To date, The Mavs Foundation has granted over $11 million to nonprofit organizations supporting women, children, and families in need, and has built sixty-two Learn & Play spaces and twenty-eight Reading & Learning Centers across North Texas. These spaces serve as vital community hubs that promote physical activity, inspire a love of learning, and increase access to technology. Each site supports educational advancement, job-skills training, and neighborhood community building. In the last year alone, the Dallas Mavericks and Mavs Foundation invested more than $4 million in the community, impacting over 150,000 individuals. Through initiatives spanning education, health & wellness, military & first responders, environment & sustainability, and social justice & racial equity, The Mavericks organization continues to be champions on and off the court. From funding critical nonprofit work to reimagining public spaces, The Mavs Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to uplift the people and places that make North Texas strong, creating a legacy of impact, one partnership and one space at a time.
