Join us for a textile workshop where participants will transform flax straw into spinnable fiber, then sew that thread into a simple Japanese mending pattern.

Led by Matthew Addonizio (Approved Textiles) and Heidi Barr with Janell Wysock (PA Flax Project), this session highlights linen’s historical significance in art and design, its role in sustainable fashion, and its growing market presence in the Philadelphia region.

Special thanks to our sponsors Bentley Mills, Eileen Tognini Design, Haworth, and Maharam for supporting this event and helping us bring the future of flax to life.

In Philadelphia, Black art is like Black life – it has no boundaries. This year for Black History Month, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is paying homage to the legacy and richness of Black art and culture in our city with a special emphasis on centering joy and community.

Join us Friday, February 2, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. to kickoff Black History Month at the PMA with a panel discussion led by 2023 Collab Design Excellence Award honoree Stephen Burks.

In conversation with curator Alisa Chiles, Burks, alongside Philadelphia-based creatives, including visual artist ruby Onyinyechi Amanze, and filmmaker Sosena Solomon will discuss their unique approaches to navigating the art world as artists and designers of color. With Burks's exhibition Stephen Burks: Shelter in Place as a backdrop, they will also talk about how they draw inspiration for their work from cultural heritage and diverse strategies for using art to address social issues.

We are sad to report the passing of architect Robert Geddes early this morning at the age of 99. Mr. Geddes was a founder and principal of the influential Philadelphia architecture firm of Geddes, Brecher, Qualls & Cunningham, and served as dean of the Princeton University School of Architecture. Among the firm's many commissions was the Police Administration Building (aka) The Roundhouse in Philadelphia, completed in 1962.

Don't miss your chance to learn about how industrial designers of the 1920s and 1930s created a modern aesthetic that represented American hopes, dreams, and fantasies. Presented by The Philadelphia Show, “America Goes Modern” will look closely at some major works of the era—each of which offers a window into their time period and the power of design.
