Tuesday's Tip of the Day:
Social Media Etiquette: Never leave an entire conversation on someone's page. Instead tell them to check their message box for a private conversation.

Tuesday's Tip of the Day:

Let others know when they are on speaker phone.

It has been quite sometime since I last posted on my site. I have had a busy summer with my family and I also started coaching varsity cross country.

I have decided to start a Tuesday's Tip of the Day. These tips will range from one liners to helpful quotes and life lessons to live by. My first tip of the day:

When flying on an airplane, never use strong perfume or cologne. Think of the other passengers and their sensitivity to smells and allergies. The air on the plane is already compressed. Stick with the less is more concept.

Running Etiquette

I thought I would blog about something I am passionate about and that is running. Below are my personal top 10 running etiquette tips.

1. Run against the traffic. I often see runners in the street running with traffic and I cringe. You need to see vehicles just as much as they need to see you.

2. Do not run down the middle of the road. It is dangerous and rude.

3. Alert pedestrians when approaching. Do not assume they can hear you coming. A simple "on your left" will suffice.

4. Stop at stop signs and make sure oncoming cars yield. Never assume a car will stop for you.

5. Respect private property.

6. If you run with your dog, keep him close to you.

7. It is always nice to say hello or nod when you pass someone.

8. Do not litter. Many runners use gel packs during a run. Either put back in your pouch or hold in your hand until you see a trashcan or you finish running.

9. If running in a group never leave anyone behind.

10. Not really an etiquette tip, however I faithfully do this before I run. I always say a prayer asking for safety from animals, cars, and people. I also pray for strength in my legs, mind, and heart.

Happy Flag Day

Today is Flag Day, here are a few helpful reminders:

1. The flag should be flown every day, and especially on days of memorial, remembrance, and respect-- such as today. Flying the flag as a citizen is a purely, personal decision but once made, should be followed with the utmost consistency and respect. Those places who should always fly the flag include the administration buildings of any and all public institutions, in or near every polling place on election days, and during the school days in or near every school building.

2. The proper way to dispose of a worn national flag is to burn it in a dignified manner. Many American Legion Posts, VFW Chapters, and Boy Scout troops offer services for dignified flag burning.

3. To fold an American flag, fold it width-wise, twice. Starting at the striped end, fold a triangle and repeat until only the end of the union is left. Finally, fold the square into a triangle and tuck it into the folds.

This one is all about personal preference. (Traditionally) Miss is used for young ladies, not married. Mrs. is used for ladies who are married and elect to assume their spouse’s last name. Ms. is somewhat of a safe zone. Use for adult ladies - unmarried AND married. Best in professional settings when you are unsure of her marital status or preference. - Sarah Allgood

Queen Elizabeth just celebrated her 91st birthday and in June will celebrate her 64th coronation day. In the event you ever get invited to either of these celebrations, here is how you’ll address your RSVP to the Queen of England:

Repondez s’il vous plait. Please Reply! On every invitation you receive, it is guaranteed that somewhere near the bottom you’ll find those four letters with a corresponding email or phone number. It is imperative you follow through with your RSVP before the date listed. RSVPs help hosts determine how many people they should prepare for in any event. By not responding, you are not allowing them the opportunity to prepare something for you, or you are giving them reason to question if you’ll even attend. That is why you should always RSVP “yes” OR “no” to an event, so that your host knows you will either attend OR not attend. Giving a definite response of your intentions shows you respect your hosts’ time and invitation.

We’ve all had that moment. You’re at the dinner table, conversing with your dinner partners when someone asks you a direct question….right after you’ve taken a bite. We all know not to talk with our mouth full, but the size of your bite directly correlates with the awkward pause in conversation. To avoid that, make sure you are taking small bites. A small bite is approximately the size of a small marshmallow. Put one of those in your mouth and see how easy it is to chew discreetly and quickly.

Meal times come with their own set of rules. At the dinner table, offer items to the person on your left, but make sure you pass everything to your right. This includes bread basket, serving dishes, condiments, and any other food item you might find on a dining table. Passing to the right streamlines the process and ensures that everyone has an opportunity for each dish.

You know what pairs best with a meal? Conversation! Your dinner partners are the people you will largely be conversing with throughout the entire meal. Make sure you know who they are! The person to your left, to your right, and directly across the table from you will be your dinner partners for the evening. Make sure you engage with each of them!

Extend your gratitude and appreciation to those around you, including yourself! Recognize small achievements or accomplishments you make throughout your day. For those around you, write a short note telling someone how grateful you are for them, thanking them for a specific instance in which they did something for you, or just a note of encouragement. Handwritten notes are a special way to show your coworkers, family members, friends, and acquaintances that you appreciate them.

Thank You Notes:
In today’s fast paced world people tend to forget how important a simple thank you note can be. While many people know that a thank you note is expected after a party, some may not realize it is good to send them after a job interview and in the following situations:
• When you receive a gift
• When you’ve been a guest at someone’s house
• Whenever someone goes out of their way and does something kind for you

When you write a thank you note the two most important things to strive for are sincerity and promptness. If you send a note more than a week after the event, it loses its validity. When writing the note make sure you are writing it as if you are having a conversation with the person. The note can be brief, but it should be specific. For example, instead of saying “thanks for the gift”, it should say what gift you are thankful for.

Many people choose to use their own personal stationary, they feel it adds a more special touch. It is also perfectly fine to buy a card that has “Thank You” printed on the front. Cards that include a message written inside also require additional notes from the sender. You are again adding your personal touch and it comes across to the receiver that you care.

Thank you notes go a long way, let’s not forget to send them.
