STUDENT LOAN UPDATE: The U.S. Department of Education has extended the enrollment deadline for a temporary interest rate reduction on federal student loans.

Borrowers who sign up for autopay may receive a 1% rate reduction, up from the usual 0.25%. The deadline moved from September 30 to December 31, 2026, and the reduced rate runs through June 30, 2028. This may be especially relevant for parents with Parent PLUS loans and for recent graduates. To enroll, log in to your loan servicer's website and set up automatic payments.
