I help wine & food enthusiasts to discover great WA wine and understand wine like a winemaker does. I serve wine adventurers to help them experience great Washington wine country. As a seasoned winemaker, allow me to tour you with digital story-telling and access to my great wines of WA state. Since 1991, I am a 30-year+ Washington State & international wine professional. Awards have been showered

upon the wines I have made:

• The 2022 Hyatt Saperavi from Hyatt Vineyards was among the Top 60 wines of 2024 with Sean Sullivan's Northwest Wine Report.
• Recently in 2018 we placed the J. Bookwalter READERS Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 on the Wine Spectator Magazine's Top 100 Most Exciting Wines of 2018.
• Wine Enthusiast also places our NOTEBOOK red wine blend among its Top 100 Best Buys of 2019.
• Owen Bargreen, current Decanter Magazine Washington State contributor, places our 2018 2nd Edition Semillon white blend on his Top 100 wines of 2020.
• Wine & Spirits Magazine awarded my buty winery with Winery of the Year and Wine of the Year awards in 2012 & 2011.
• Food & Wine magazine and Seattle Magazine naming the Rediviva of the Stones Walla Walla Valley blend "Wine of the Year". Top listed year after year in Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Tanzer, Decanter, and Food & Wine Pocket Guide.
• I made the wines for the Herbfarm Restaurant, 2005, '08, '09 Designee Conner Lee Vineyard cabernet franc, and Canlis Restaurant's the 2006 & '09 Peter Canlis syrah Walla Walla Valley.
• I also developed buty winery not only profitably at early stages but also until it became the newest of the top 20 best Washington State wineries in Paul Gregutt's critical book - Washington Wines and Wineries: the Essential Guide. My winemaking career started in the Walla Walla Valley in 1991. I joined Rick Small at Woodward Canyon and enjoyed great winemaking there for 8 years. I continued winemaking, traveling, and consulting with over 10 wineries in Washington State, Marlborough, New Zealand, and Stellenbosch, South Africa with brands such as Matua, Jackson Estate, Nautilus, Wairau River, Ch. Michelle, Glen Fiona, Abeja, Walla Walla Community College, Bookwalter, and Quoin Rock. In 2000, I created Caleb Foster Wines LLC producing the buty and BEAST brands in Walla Walla with my first wife Nina Buty, until 2012. I designed and planted Rockgarden Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley Rocks District AVA in 2008 with Zelma Long and Phil Freese's guidance. In 2013, I consulted Delicato Winery looking for Washington production. During vintage 2013, I produced with Crimson Wine Group the Double Canyon cabernet sauvignons with Will Beightol. From 2014 through 2021, I produced with my friend and colleague John Bookwalter supporting his great wine and hospitality mission in Washington state. Now, I am launching Gunpowder Creek Winery and Caleb’s Wines to serve wine & travel enthusiasts online and with personal tours in Washington wine country.

My renewed cover photo honors my dear friend Tom Thorsen grower of all my Conner Lee Vineyard wines.

That’s Bill Conner of Conner Homes in Bellevue, co-owner with Rhody Lee of Lakeside Industries, Bellevue. Conner Lee Vineyard was their fun time wine project that TBA (Thorsen Bookwalter & Associates {David Ayalla}) managed for 30 years growing many of “Top 100” list-ranking wines, some I even got to make with them.

Tom Thorsen and I joined Bill on his yatch The Heather 6 days up the Inside Passage to Anchorage. One of the best meals ever is fresh caught dungeonous crab and buty Chardonnay from Conner Lee Vyd.

So many great wines and memories with dear friends and great co-workers. David Ayalla and Rickie Alvarez with their hecho a mano con careño ladies team grew our top quality wines daily at Conner Lee Vyd. .

That’s an old Leonetti cab sauv with CLV fruit in it we’re drinking. Leonetti Cellars

Behind every bottle is a delicate dance between chemistry and instinct. We call it winemaking; our hearts call it a labor of love. 🥂

Eastern WA: where sagebrush meets stellar wine 🌾🍷
Dry, sun-baked days + cool desert nights = grapes with brilliant concentration and zippy acidity — the perfect recipe for world-class wines. Washington is the U.S.’s second-largest premium wine producer, with approximately 50,000 to 60,000 acres of wine grapes planted across its various growing regions. Proud of our rugged roots and even prouder of the bottles we make. Cheers from the desert that drinks like velvet! 🥂🇺🇸
