We thought it would be fun to try to add one more year of Yakima's Best. We went on an 8 year streak of winning, but haven't pushed it for a few years. We are on our 3rd straight year as best Internet on the Yakima Business Times.

If you would like to vote for us in the Yakima Herald Competition, we would appreciate it! Here is the link: http://yakimaherald.secondstreetapp.com/vote/ #/referrals/ae9085fb-9ba4-4aaa-b1ef-41172ece2608

Today the Wall Street Journal did a story on Starlink and their massive increase in monthly service. Yes they have a low cost buy-in but don't count on it staying that way. Just a friendly reminder, Washington Broadband has NEVER raised prices.
Here is the text directly from WSJ on that issue,

"When Julie Slama and her husband moved to a home outside Dunbar, Nebraska, in April 2022, they were happy customers of Elon Musk’s Starlink. The satellite-based internet service from Musk’s rocket-maker, SpaceX, was the only practical option for them in their rural community, and their $90 monthly rate has felt reasonable in the years since. SpaceX is set to list on the stock market this week at a valuation of more than $1 trillion, and Slama is now feeling the squeeze. She and her husband, parents of three who run a law firm from their home, face a 44 percent jump in their internet bill, an annual increase of nearly $500. Starlink told some U.S. customers in May that it was raising prices and increased the cost of most plans for a service that counts millions of users across the country. “I can complain about Starlink raising their prices, but it’s the only real option we have,” said Slama, a Republican and former Nebraska state senator. “Once they have rural customers on their service with no meaningful alternatives, they’re free to raise prices at will.” “When you have a captured consumer you are able to raise the prices,” said Drew Garner, director of policy engagement at the nonpartisan Benton Institute for Broadband & Society. “Given that broadband is an essential service and that the consumer has to buy it you’re able to … squeeze them often.”"

We will be having a significant wind and rain the next few days. Some signals will be compromised. After the storm is over, if your Internet speeds are not what you expect, please call the office so we may adjust from here, or hurry a service person out to help you!

We wanted to give an update on our two year program to improve speeds on our Wireless network. While other ISP's claim they offer 100mbps, they only do it on one or two of their towers. We have waited until a vast majority of our network can offer that. As of this time 76% of our towers are capable of 100mbps customer speeds.

Our installers have contacted anyone who is on plans Ultra and above to arrange for replacing the radios on their homes and businesses. As always there is no charge for these upgrades. Again, our competitors are charging for those upgrades and requiring contracts. Once installed the speeds automatically are raised over what you are currently provided.

You can see pricing on our website wabroadband.com. We do have a limit of 4 miles from the tower in order to guarantee speeds. It's exciting to provide speeds equivalent to wired competitors while still with our never raise the prices philosophy.

We don't take your ongoing loyalty for granted, and appreciate that you have chosen Washington Broadband!

After a summer of upgrading radios, we have officially turned up the speeds on all plans at no extra cost. We also now offer a 100mbps download speed as radios continue to improve. We're not sitting back, we continue to upgrade our network. Now that we have sold off our Wired division, we are spending all of our money on upgrading the Wireless side. You should immediately see faster speeds. We will have more but you can go to https://wabroadband.com/services/ right now and see how your price now has faster speeds.

If you're wondering about the the fiber-Wireless speeds, that means towers that are directly fed from our old fiber network. We aren't just announcing 100mbps speeds on our entire network as our competitors do without the network to support it. Also if you choose the fastest speeds we don't force you into a contract or make you pay for the radio. We're still far better than the others in this town and we aim to prove it. Always call us if you don't get the speeds you are paying for, we'll fix it! Thank you!

We think we found the problem with the slow loading streaming. After the AWS outages we started having people say their HULU and other streams were taking forever to open. We determined that something called "Peering" built an improper path after the big AWS outage. This caused all of these APP's to start loading slowly. We have rebuilt all our paths and now find the network far more responsive. So starting fresh, if you have this problem PLEASE let us know at [email protected] if you are having issues! Thank you!

Tuesday is the day we complete the transition of our Fiber and Cable plant over to purchaser Spectrum Communications. We still have our very successful Wireless side of the company, with the same joyful staff you are used to. It's big for us too, we'll miss the customers moving with the sale, and we're proud that in 7 years we were able to build 178 miles of fiber and purchased cable in the upper and west Yakima valley. We're part of you, you're part of us!
