October is Chaplain Appreciation Month, and we’re pleased to recognize Yamhill Fire Protection District’s chaplain, Brad Salter!

Brad completed chaplain training in September and has stepped into this role to provide support, encouragement, and a listening ear for our members and their families. His service also brings a caring presence to community members during difficult times.

🚒 **First Weekend of Fire Academy in the Books!**

Our newest Yamhill Fire volunteers completed their first weekend of the Yamhill County Fire Academy!

**Saturday morning** focused on personal protective equipment (PPE), learning about the gear that protects firefighters and how to properly wear and use it.

**Saturday afternoon** was all about ladders, learning proper handling, carrying, raising, and safety techniques.

**Sunday** was a full day of fire hose and fire streams, getting hands-on experience with hose handling, nozzles, and flowing water.

It's a lot of information and physical work packed into just two days, and our recruits did a great job!

Over the next several weekends, they'll continue building the skills and confidence needed to serve our community.

A big thank-you to the instructors and neighboring departments who dedicate their weekends to training the next generation of firefighters.

And remember: Heiser Farms is open to EVERYONE! You don’t have to be a first responder to come out and enjoy the day. Bring the family, cheer on the teams, grab some c***r and donuts, visit the pumpkin patch, listen to live music, and make a day of it!

*****CLARIFICATION-PLEASE READ—***Fall backyard burn season is now open within the Yamhill Fire Protection District.

Please remember, however, that the Oregon Department of Forestry is still in fire season. If your property is located within an ODF fire protection/response area, you will need to contact ODF regarding any required permits or restrictions before burning.

For those who are able to burn, please continue to use caution. Conditions can still be dry, and fire can spread quickly:

* Never leave a burn pile unattended.
* Keep a charged garden hose or other reliable water source nearby.
* Clear dry grass, leaves, and other combustible material away from the burn area.
* Keep burn piles small and manageable.
* Do not burn during windy conditions.
* Make sure the fire is completely out and cold before leaving the area.

Always call the burn line for the daily burn status before lighting: 503-472-3344.

Please burn responsibly and help keep our community safe.

Last week, we had the opportunity to celebrate the people who have dedicated so much of their time to serving the Yamhill community.

During our 130th Anniversary celebration, we recognized past and current volunteers and presented Years of Service pins honoring 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and an incredible 50 years of service.

Every one of those years represents countless hours of training, responding to calls, supporting fellow firefighters, and serving our community.

We are proud to recognize these milestones and grateful to everyone—past and present—who has helped make Yamhill Fire what it is today.

All emergency responders and their families are invited to join us at Heiser Farms on Sunday, October 4, for a full day of fall fun, friendly competition and responder camaraderie!

Last year, the “old chiefs” from Carlton, Dayton and Yamhill proved they still had what it takes and took home the waterball trophy. This year, they’re raring to go—and determined to remain undefeated!

The question is: Does your department have what it takes to beat them?

For more than 50 years, Bob Landauer has faithfully served the Yamhill Fire Protection District and the community he calls home.

Through countless calls, fires, volunteers, leadership changes, and generations of service, Bob has remained a steady and dependable presence. He is the person you turn to when something needs to be done, something needs to be fixed, or someone needs help—and he has always answered the call.

Reaching this remarkable milestone takes more than dedication from one person. It also requires the patience, sacrifice, and unwavering support of a family. Bob could not have given so much of himself to the district without the support of his wife, Val, and their family. His legacy of service continues through their daughter, Mary Spencer, who also proudly serves as a volunteer firefighter with Yamhill Fire.

We are incredibly grateful for Bob’s dedication, knowledge, friendship, and more than five decades of service. His contributions have helped shape the Yamhill Fire Protection District into what it is today.

Please join us in congratulating Bob Landauer on receiving his 50-Year Service Award—and in thanking Bob, Val, Mary, and the entire Landauer family for a lifetime of service and support.

🔥 Celebrating 130 Years of Service 🔥

Today, the Yamhill Fire Protection District proudly celebrated its 130th anniversary—an incredible milestone built upon generations of courage, commitment, and service to our community.

Past and present volunteers came together to reconnect, share memories, and enjoy a barbecue in recognition of the people who have helped shape our district throughout its long history. It was wonderful to see generations of volunteers gathered in one place, united by their shared dedication to protecting and serving the Yamhill community.

Several current volunteers were recognized for reaching important years-of-service milestones. Among them was Chris Featherston, who was honored for an outstanding 30 years of service to the district.

A very special recognition was presented to Bob Landauer, who has devoted an extraordinary 50 years of service to the Yamhill Fire Protection District. Five decades of volunteer service is a remarkable achievement and a powerful example of loyalty, leadership, and commitment to one’s community.

We are deeply grateful to Chris, Bob, and every past and present volunteer who has answered the call over the past 130 years. The Yamhill Fire Protection District’s history was built by individuals willing to give their time, skills, and hearts in service to others—and that tradition continues today.
