🌧️ RAIN DOES NOT MEAN THE BURN BAN IS OVER 🔥

Although a good amount of rain is forecast for our area this week, the burn ban remains in effect until it is officially lifted.

A few days of rain may dampen the surface, but vegetation and larger fuels can remain dry enough to burn. Please continue to follow all current burn-ban restrictions and do not assume that rainfall automatically makes outdoor burning permissible.

Please also remember that backyard burning season does not open until October 1. Even if the burn ban is lifted before then, backyard burning is not permitted until the season officially opens.

For updated burning information, call the Yamhill County Burn Line at 503-472-3344.

We will announce any changes when the burn ban is officially lifted. Thank you for helping keep our community and firefighters safe.

🚗 Parking and Traffic Information for Jim Phillips’ Celebration of Life

For those attending tomorrow’s Celebration of Life for Jim Phillips, please review the attached parking and traffic map before arriving.

Important parking information:

• All parking inside Beulah Park and along the park’s fence line is reserved.

• Five additional ADA parking spaces will be available next to the existing ADA spaces.

• General public parking will be available in the field south of the park. Enter from Hemlock Street, follow the designated route through the park, and parking attendants will direct you into the field.

• Overflow parking will also be available off 3rd street near Maple St.

Beulah Park will have a one-way traffic pattern to allow commercial vehicles to move through the park safely. Please follow the directional signs and the instructions provided by parking attendants.

Please park responsibly and leave enough room for other vehicles to park, enter, and exit safely. Parking attendants will be onsite to provide directions and help everyone find the appropriate parking area.

INFORMATION SHARING......YFPD has avoided washing fire apparatus since August 8th as per Yamhill's level 2 water restrictions.

With the Celebration of Life for lifelong community member, former volunteer firefighter, and former board member Jim Phillips tomorrow- we will be washing them today.

After the celebration we will assume our part in water conservation following the City of Yamhill's recommendations.

Honoring Jim’s Legacy ❤️

Jim Phillips gave so much of his life to Yamhill. For decades, he showed up for this community—not for recognition, but because he genuinely cared about the people and the place he called home.

His dedication to the Yamhill Community Club, Beulah Park, Derby Days, the Yamhill Fire Protection District, and countless community projects has left a mark that will be felt for generations.

Many have asked how they can honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has asked that donations be made to either the Yamhill Community Club or the Yamhill Fire Protection District Volunteer Association. Both are nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that were very important to Jim throughout his life.

Perhaps one of the greatest ways we can honor Jim is to continue what he spent so many years doing—showing up, helping where we can, and making Yamhill a better place for the generations that follow us.

Thank you to everyone who has shared memories, offered support, and helped us honor a man who meant so much to our little community.

Jim’s work here may be finished, but his legacy is not. ❤️

The Yamhill Fire Protection District is saddened to share the passing of former volunteer firefighter and former Board Member Jon Peasley, following a battle with cancer.

Jon dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Yamhill Fire Protection District, serving both as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and later as a member of the Board of Directors. His years of involvement were an important part of the district's history and reflect a significant commitment of time to the community.

Jon's contributions to this district and this community will not be forgotten. We thank him for answering the call for so many years and for leaving Yamhill better because of his service.

The Yamhill Fire Protection District extends its heartfelt condolences to Jon's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. We are grateful for his years of dedication and the example he set through a lifetime of service.

Thank you for your years of service to the Yamhill Fire Protection District. Rest in peace.

🌫️ Smoke Advisory for Yamhill Fire Protection District

You may notice hazy skies and the smell of smoke across our area today and over the next couple of days. This smoke is drifting into western Oregon from large wildland fires burning in Washington and Canada.

While there are currently no major wildfires threatening our community, changing weather patterns are carrying smoke south into the Willamette Valley.

Please take a few simple precautions:

🏠 Keep windows and doors closed if smoke becomes heavy.
🌬️ Limit prolonged outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise.
❤️ Those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, young children, older adults, and pregnant individuals should take extra care.
🚗 Drive with caution if visibility is reduced in smoky areas.
🔥 Remember that conditions remain very dry. Continue to use caution with anything that could start a fire.

Smoke conditions can change throughout the day depending on wind direction and weather patterns. If you are sensitive to smoke, consider reducing your time outdoors until air quality improves.

The Yamhill Fire Protection District will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if needed.

☀️ HIGH HEAT IS COMING – TAKE ACTION NOW ☀️

Beginning Tuesday, our area is expected to experience a period of dangerously hot weather. High temperatures and extremely dry conditions significantly increase the risk of fires starting and spreading quickly.

🔥 One important reminder: If you have burned brush or debris within the last several months, please take a few minutes to check your burn pile.

This past Saturday, our firefighters responded to a fire caused by a burn pile that had been extinguished for nearly two months. Hidden hot spots can remain deep underground or beneath ash and debris, only to reignite when conditions become hot, dry, and windy.

Please help protect your home, your neighbors, and our community by:
✅ Inspecting old burn piles for heat or smoke.
✅ Drenching any warm areas with plenty of water and stirring the material thoroughly.
✅ Avoiding any outdoor activities that could create sparks during the hottest part of the day.
✅ Keeping dry grass mowed and defensible space around your home maintained.

It only takes one spark to start a wildfire. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe during this period of extreme heat.
